Please also review the rubric for this assessment which is downloadable from the Moodle site.

MGMT11109 2 Term 1, 2019

The senior management team of Starbucks would like the following addressed in your Powerpoint presentation.

• A slide introducing yourself to Starbucks following the learning from the Unit (one slide one only); • A summarised history of Starbucks global business (one slide only – use slide two); • Challenges currently facing the company regarding its planned entry into the Italian market and what can be learned from the Australian experience; • Demonstrate how Starbucks can operate with 'humility and respect' in the Italian market and how this demonstrates the social responsibility of Starbucks in Italy; and

• A reference list slide (use slide 20 and subsequent slides if required).

Your Powerpoint presentation must be 20 slides long. Slide 1 is the slide where you introduce yourself as a potential consultant and potential local partner of Starbucks in Italy. Think of yourself as a consultant seeking a partnership with a globalised business. Your audience is the senior management board of Starbucks. Slide 20 is where you provide your reference list. Further slides after slide 20 may contain your references list, but only this information. Slide 1 to 19 require an embedded audio recording of your voice. Students must follow the "Adding audio to your Powerpoint presentation" authored by the Academic Learning Centre when adding the embedded audio recording. No script is required to be submitted and students are advised to not read from a pre-prepared script when recording the audio for your Powerpoint presentation as this makes your presentation less engaging. Engagement of the audience is a key criteria (see criteria 4).

Your Powerpoint presentation must be written as a reflection. Reflection is all about deepening your learning. You should reflect on the Australian experience to better the Italian experience of rolling out Starbucks. By reflecting, you are able to make connections between your own experience and what you are learning. It also allows you to learn from your mistakes and thus become a better business practitioner. Your own thoughts, feelings, experiences and ideas are central to reflective writing. Therefore, the assessment should be written in the first person style. Your submission should contain a clear structure with an introduction, body and conclusion, it should use formal language and omit colloquial language, contain correct grammar and spelling and it should draw on scholarly references. Your Powerpoint presentation needs to be referenced using the CQU APA Referencing Style Guide. You need to provide at least eight scholarly and non-scholarly references to pass this criteria for this assessment. To answer the questions above you will have to rely on the learning presented in the twelve weekly instalments during the Unit. For example, for your response to ‘Challenges currently facing the company regarding its planned entry into the Italian market and what can be learned from the Australian experience’ you will have to determine the impact of the complex role of globalisation in recent years on the company and draw on the learning from week six, eight and nine.

Your slide presentation should be narrated using your voice and the recording tools in Powerpoint to record a narration or audio commentary of your slides. The narration or audio commentary should be no more than 12 minutes and utilise the software technology to maximise the presentation. So do not record the audio on your phone and load individually onto each slide. This is not considered a professional presentation in business. The Academic Learning Centre has tools and resources for students who are unfamiliar with the MS Powerpoint program and creating the best integrated audio. The Academic Learning Centre can be accessed in the SUPPORT block on the left in moodle. The first of the 19 slides should contain a professional business introduction (see 20 second profile from week one) and your headshot photo. The final slide should contain your ‘Reference List’ prepared in accordance with latest CQU APA Referencing Guide.

Your Powerpoint slide presentation should be 20 slides with the 20th slide being your ‘References List’. Your ‘References List can go over to slide 21, 22 and 23 without any penalty.
