Introduction
Bullying in schools is currently becoming a persuasive problem affecting numerous students across the globe. According to research conducted by individuals from various fields, the results show a clear indication that bullying negatively deviates students' academic performance. Generally, schools where bullying is part and parcel of daily school activities may produce half-baked professionals in the future compared to schools where bullying does not exist and is not tolerated within the institution. The study aims to investigate the significance of bullying and devise interventions to eliminate it more so in schools (Nocentini, et al., 2015).
Participants
This study involves participants from various high schools within Denmark. The number of students who will be selected to participate in this study is four hundred. The inclusion criteria for our study will be students between grades 8-12, both the culprits involved in bullying and those that experienced bullying, teachers, parents, and school administrators that may have been affected by bullying either directly or indirectly. The staff is expected to explain how they handle matters related to bullying in their institutions. The schools of selection will be those that experience bullying in their institutions and raise the alarm.
Measures
The following are the measures used in data collection.
· Use of Academic Results- The participants will be assessed using their Aggregate points scored in the current tests and the previous preceding tests.
· Use of bullying questionnaires- A self-report questionnaire will assess how frequently and severely the participants experience bullying.
· Developmental and affectionate measures- measures like the Child Behavior checklist will be used to investigate the effects of bullying on the behavior and emotions of an individual.
· Demographic data- age, sex, social status, economic status, and background will be collected to cater to potential confounding variables.
Procedure
The research will involve two key phases.
The first phase will involve recruiting participants from various high schools in South Carolina. The schools that are willing to participate in the study will be selected. After the agreement, a letter will be sent to the head of the institution or the principal, explaining the study's aims and the benefits the institution is likely to get after participating in the study. After the school agrees with the researchers, the students meeting the inclusion criteria will be recruited.
The second phase will include providing the affected students with a questionnaire to write about their bullying experience and attach their GPA results from other school records. This questionnaire will be administered during learning hours. The questions on bullying within the questionnaire will be verbal, physical, cyber, and social. The time that will be given to the students to complete the questionnaire is approximately twenty minutes.
Conclusion
The objective of the study is to carry out investigations on the effects of bullying on Academic excellence. The findings of this study may implicate development interventions to lower and eliminate bullying and improve students' academic performance in various schools across the globe.
