It, therefore, means that for effective input from the graduates and perhaps expertise to be realized, there is a great need to provide an appropriate balance between career development, management of life, and work overtime (Lonczak, 2020). Career development learning is among the fields that have gained popularity in recent days as it helps students to gain more insights about what they need to do to achieve their dreams in life. In general, career development can be described as the process that entails management of learning, life, and work, which applies to every individual who has the vision to participate in their career line actively, work, and perhaps life aspects that conjointly promote individual’s success in their career endeavors.

As children grow throughout their academic life, they often think about what b to be and do as adults and right from their tender age start to formulate ideas about career, work as well as their adult life. The importance of career development is that it increases motivation among the learners or employees and as an aspect that not only enables them to achieve the highest level of success but also facilitates productivity (Lonczak, 2020). Based on the question, this discussion paper will provide in-depth knowledge on the reflection of my own career development in the field of mental health counseling alongside theories associated with this career development.

With increasing dynamics of the healthcare challenges that perhaps make it hard and complicated in handling healthcare-related issues, it is highly advisable for psychiatric mental health counselors and other healthcare professionals need to have extensive knowledge and foundation about mental illness alongside theoretical underpinnings associated with mental counseling services (Lonczak, 2020). Mental Counseling is a professional way of providing support or helping people living with numerous mental challenges. The aspect of counseling in the medical or field of psychology helps people solve the interpersonal, social, and individual problems they face in their daily lives. I, as a mental counselor, aim to look forward to developing my career so as to align with my objectives in life, work, and career path.

It must be understood that mental counselors do not work to provide advice or aim to solve problems of people are facing on their behalf; rather, their focus is only on providing guidance to the people having various levels of mental challenges to look at their problems to solve them at their personal level. As it may be seen in psychology, mental health career is associated with numerous theories of mental illness. Among these theories of illness include grand theory, micro-level theory, and middle-range theory. In nursing and general healthcare professional, grand theory of nursing plays a critical role in facilitating the manner in which nurses and other healthcare practitioners execute their functions with regard to the provision of patient-based services that suits the need of the client.

Grand theory is often based on a broad perspective of nursing practice, abstract and complex concepts that can be applied to provide outstanding achievement in a mental counseling career. With the utilization and deployment of grand theory, I will be able to improve on my career development as a mental counselor as it will not only help me grow academically but also facilitate me to understand human behavior, thought, and development  (Goodtherapy, 2019). the best ways to improve my career, and perhaps balance both life and world aspect, the said understanding will be among the primary concepts that will help me have a broad base and sense of understanding about what how and why people, particularly patients with mental challenges behave the same way they do. These will provide me with an appropriate framework to pick the most practical approaches that can be used to help people suffering from various mental illnesses that could otherwise be difficult to handle using other medical approaches.

As people continue learning in life, it is critical to ensure that along with the ways most effective strategies and theories of career development are properly incorporated into their academic life so as to obtained and inculcate proficiency and competence required in the real world  (Goodtherapy, 2019). Several factors affect our career development and improvement process. This career development process requires a rigorous process where various theories need to be considered and applied to help one choose and perhaps follow the correct career path to avoid fallouts along the academic and career choosing path. on the best theory use in career development, particularly in the field of mental health counseling, is trait and factor theory. Imperative to note is that trait and factor theory has been identified as the most effective and enduring theory when it comes to career counseling.

Trait and factor theory holds that it is possible to measure both one's talents and the attributes needed for a particular job. As mental health counselor am passionate about my career and even feel that I will be able to competently perform all that is expected of me while executing duties in line with my job requirements  (Goodtherapy, 2019). I will apply the tools and values held by a trait-factor theory that when individuals are working or are in jobs that best suits their abilities, they tend to perform much better as well as Improve productivity to their highest level possible (Elizabeth, 2018). This theory will help me apply techniques, and counseling approaches such as Psychodynamic counseling provide one of the best ways to establish a strong therapist client alliance to develop ideas and solutions to deal with the most complicated feelings and situations. This theory is effective as one of the approaches that will help advance my career and as one of the frameworks used by psychiatrists in both long-term and short-term and long-term treatment of clients with psychological challenges.

Another important theory is that can be used in mental counseling theory that I deem it right for my professional development as a mental health counselor is humanistic or client centered-counseling theory which is based on the assumption that people already have the qualities needed to make them change and flourish with respect to the quality of their life. Use this theory in my career development will require supplement counseling techniques such as induction, use of imagination alongside positive counseling techniques to help clients achieve desired results (Elizabeth, 2018). Humanistic counseling theory encourage mental counselors to develop empathy, intuition, curiosity, creativity, and humility and aspect which make them remain relevant and helpful in their line of professional duties.

The humanistic theory of counseling was put forth by Carl Rogers, and it has been found to be effective in helping clines attain their full potential as human beings. The use of this theory as a remedy for my career development and as a mental health counselor will help me promote a safe climate in which I will be able to make use of empathy and non-judgmental approaches to help clients experiences a good sense of acceptance which will, in turn, enhance openness and unconditional positive regard in the services provided (Elizabeth, 2018).
