The counseling field that has been selected for this assignment is career counseling. Career counseling is a field in psychology that targets students and other adults who are in the process of developing their careers. Career counselors engage their clients with the main aim of helping their clients to come up with the best choices of their careers. The world has been changing at a fast rate and that has changed the way people live. As opposed to decades ago, career choices are faced with a lot of challenges. The emergence of new careers has given students a wide variety of choices to choose from. Also, the changes that are taking place in the world have left uncertainties about some careers. For example, in the field of technology, there are many changes that are taking place. It, therefore, means that in a few years, some of the professionals who left school recently will be irrelevant.

Due to the threat of uncertainty, people are looking for help from professionals. Career counselors are people who have been equipped with knowledge that helps them to advise people who need advice from them (O Net Online, 2020). People have also understood the power of taking professional approaches when dealing with things. As a result, many people are approaching career counselors with the desire to get advice from professionals. The career is responsible for many good choices that have been made in choosing careers.

Accessing labor market information about the career is not a challenge. The career is one of the most practiced careers in counseling and that makes it a popular career. The internet presents a lot of opportunities through sites that have been designed and established to advertise jobs (O Net Online, 2020). In the labor market, the demand for career counseling is high. One of the factors that have promoted the increased demand for the skills that career counselors provide is the increasing zeal for people to make the right choices of careers. Learning institutions also continue to encourage students to make career choices in the earlier stages of their lives (O Net Online, 2020). At the same time, they have increased the help that they offer to students in schools. When the number of people who need help from certain professionals increases, it means that the demand for professional’s shoots upward.

Career counseling is a practice that comes in place to help students make accurate and good education and career decisions. One of the advantages of career counseling is that it is not limited to any specific career. It, therefore, means that any person who wants to assume any career can approach a career counselor. Over the last few decades, career counseling has continued to receive attention from potential professionals and clients. Making the right choices in choosing a career is something that society is taking more seriously than before. Therefore, most of the young people are seeking the help of career counselors in their respective fields. The increasing demand for career counseling has affected professionals who are interested in practicing the career. Such is expected given the fact that career persons are interested in being employed most of the time. Therefore, when there are fields that have high demands for labor, such fields attract more professionals. Career counseling is also a field that rewards its professionals through good pay. The top then of career counselors in the United States receive an average of $86,610. 

Educational information about career counseling

Career counseling is not a new field and that means that there is a lot of information about educational expectations. In career counseling, there are three levels of education. However, a career counselor can start practicing after attaining the first level of education. The first level of education is a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling (O Net Online, 2020). The course takes four years and one is allowed to take the course by attending lectures on campus or online. The second level of education is earning a Master's Degree. Master’s Degree takes approximately five to six academic years. A person with a Master’s Degree is more skilled, educated, and informed than a person with a Bachelor’s Degree. The third and highest level of education for a career counselor is a Doctoral in Counseling (O Net Online, 2020). People who have attained the highest level of education are not only practitioners, but they can also assume the leadership and teaching roles.

Employability of a career counselor from the perspective of opportunity availability cannot be doubted. The career has a high demand and that means that more professionals are needed in the industry. Finding work online is also a possibility and that means that there are high chances of getting a job as a career counselor.
