Compliance in a hospital setting is paramount for any media and hospital institution at large. Many errors are made without notice only to realize when it's too late, and the results are compliance in a healthcare setting can at times cause death or consequences that one with life with throughout their lives. This is why complying with different measures in a health setting is encouraged. A healthcare setting should comply with measures identifying the right individual to be treated. The second important measure is complying with measures to match medication with a person who must be treated. The third compliance in healthcare is on keeping health records by ensuring that these healthcare records match with the right person and for the right medication to be issued. General Hospital is a real-life example whose compliance report for January 2014 is assessed.
HIPAA requires different compliance, and healthcare facilities s comply with these. For General Hospital, there are five key compliance that the institution follows in delivering medical services to patients. One of this compliance is the release of information requests. The institution complies with HIPAA to ensure that information is released safely to protect the integrity of medical information. The second area of compliance for the institution is a dictation of history and physical. The institution acknowledges the need to be accountable for the historical data about a patient. This case ensures that it accounts for all information about a patient. This is crucial for the institution because it avoids mistakes where there could have been a case where medical administration was wrongly done, or a patent could have been misdiagnosed in the past.
However, there are other areas with which the institution does not necessarily comply. These are areas that, if not looked into closely, the institution could expose patients to more risks of diagnosis and mistreatment. One of those areas where the institution does not comply with HIPAA is physical orders. The institution does not do follow-ups with physical orders, which is not good for HIPAA regulations. The other non-compliance is for the institution is on signing and the discharge summary. The institution does not account for how the signing of a patient during discharge is done. This implies that there could be a wrong discharge of the patient and this could not be accounted for by mistake. Thus, the institution needs to show more responsibility for its compliance with the signing of parents who are being discharged.
For the proper functioning of General Hospital, there are a few areas of improvement that the institution should work on. One of these areas is on physical orders. This institution should ensure that it has a robust compliance score to this because it exposes patients to more health risks. The other health concern area is on signing patients who are being discharged. This is to avoid signing for discharge of patients who have not yet been discharged or, in other cases, failing to sign properly for a patient who has been discharged. It is also important if General Hospital can consider improving on its ROI release. This ensures that information being shared is reliable and protected from leaking to parties with ill intentions.
