TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Request for Insight on Improving Employee Morale Opening and Agenda Thank you for requesting my input regarding non-monetary ways to improve employee morale. I share your interest in good employee morale as I think that engaged, happy employees serve as the cornerstone to successful companies. There are two company initiatives when implemented, that I believe will improve employee morale: (1) communicate employee recognition through the company’s electronic messaging system and (2) encourage employee friendships through organized events. Body Employee Recognition Employee morale could improve by using the current electronic messaging system to recognize employees. Being recognized is very uplifting and would give a boost to an employee’s morale. Using the electronic messaging system to communicate important employee milestones; e.g., birthdays, birth announcements, wedding announcements, and service awards is currently achievable. Employees view these messages on high definition displays, active in all plant cafeterias, which currently support direct electronic messaging to employees. Therefore, no monetary investment is required. It would allow the company a consistent way to recognize and share in the important milestones of employees personally. This personal recognition by the company, followed by recognition from co-workers, would certainly boost the morale of any employee. Body Encourage Employee Friendships Organized events are a great way to encourage employee friendships which build employee morale. Organized events could be either at work or off-site. Work events could be as simple as organized employee pot-luck lunches or co-worker lunch walks. Coupon trading, recipe sharing, and competing in chili cook-offs are other engaging events that build friendships and employee morale. Popular off-site events, such as bowling or softball leagues, can be great for relationship building. Families can be included in organized excursions to the outlet mall or a family night at the ballpark. Employees become more engaged as they build friendships throughout the organization. This activity results in improved employee morale and greater satisfaction in the workplace. Closing Implementing Employee Morale Initiatives I would be excited to participate in a team that is empowered to implement initiatives to improve employee morale. I would gladly meet with our human resource director, as a next step, to further discuss the merit of my ideas. Please let me know if you would like to discuss these initiatives in further detail or if you would like me to proceed with HR discussions. I appreciate your consideration in involving me in this important process. Self scoring
