RE: Memo Recommendations Assignment

This memo outlines the memo assignment. The details regarding the assignment’s background, guidelines, and deliverables follow. The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate the communication strategies we discussed as we opened the session coupled with strong organizational skills and business writing style while writing a formal, business memo.

Positions

You report to Ashley Nelson, vice president for business development with Freeman Capital (FC), a venture capital firm. You are a venture capital associate, and your responsibilities include

· identify and source emerging investment opportunities by developing investment theses,

· lead due diligence efforts and become an expert in those fields,

· draft investment memos with data and analysis to support your investment decision, and

· collaborate with portfolio companies on key strategic and operational projects.

Venture capital firms engage in deal sourcing (finding companies to invest in and facilitating the investments) and managing particular funds.

Task

Nelson asked you to look into business trends for 2022 and recommend business areas Freeman Capital can invest in over the next year. You find this article https://www.profitableventure.com/business-ideas-for-the-future/ which has examples of business areas including e-commerce, cybersecurity, virtual reality, and many more.

To do this assignment properly, you must

· pick and research three business areas you feel will be profitable and good investments,

· find financial data that supports why the areas are growing, and

· write a memo to Nelson and persuade her why Freeman Capital should invest in these business areas.

The memo should include these five paragraphs:

· introduction: sets up the document and includes the two business area recommendations

· content: investment area #1 - Research the business area and find statistics on why the area is growing

· content: investment area #2 - Research the business area and find statistics on why the area is growing

· content: investment area #3 - Research the business area and find statistics on why the area is growing

· conclusion: final wrap up statement(s) and the three items needed in a conclusion

Order your content paragraphs from most to lesser important area.

Guidelines

Follow the guidelines below as you write your memo

· Use parallel, talking headings (level two). The opening and closing paragraphs do not need a heading.

· Use bullets in ONE section (bullets stress importance)

· Place a logo a quarter or a third of an inch from the top of the page so you do not waste a lot of space at the top of the page

· Graded on content, grammar, organization, and appearance
