The topic I have chosen for my briefing paper is the problem of data breaches in the healthcare industry and possible solutions. This is a problem that is handled by healthcare IT professionals and managers. I believe that this is a pressing issue because the healthcare industry increasingly relies on digital systems and data, and the risk of data breaches also increases.

Data breaches can occur in several ways, including hacking, malware, and social engineering. They can also occur when data is lost or stolen, such as through lost laptops or phones. The consequences of data breaches can be significant. They can lead to the loss of patients' personal information, including names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers, and health information. They can also lead to financial losses for healthcare organizations, as well as reputational damage. 

There are several steps that healthcare organizations can take to prevent data breaches, including implementing strong security measures, encrypting data, and training staff on security procedures. However, data breaches can still occur, even in organizations with strong security measures in place. If a data breach does occur, several steps should be taken to mitigate the damage, including notifying affected patients, contacting law enforcement, and taking steps to prevent future breaches. 

The audience for this briefing paper would be healthcare organizations, specifically those who are at risk for data breaches. This audience would be interested in this briefing document because it would provide them with information on what data breaches are, how they can occur, and what steps should be taken to prevent and respond to them.
