Discussion 2a Meet Your Team

 Meet Your Team

· What strengths do you bring to your team?

· What are the similarities and differences between ethics codes in Public Health and other health professions?

Before posting on this discussion board, be sure you have completed your Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test and viewed the videos on Personality and Ethical thinking. You also need to complete the Clark Civility Index assignment before posting on this discussion board.

Respond to the following prompts:

· Your team is designed to be diverse. Tell your team what your Humanmetrics Jung Typology results are and what your Keirsey Temperament is. What is unique about you and what do you bring to the team? If you feel comfortable, share a little bit of your personal background with your team.

· Based on your Clark Civility Index identify one area of personal strength and how you plan to continue developing this area of strength. Identify one area for personal growth, how you plan to achieve it, within which timeframe?

· Choose an ethics code from a discipline other than public health and let your team know which ethics code you will be reading. Read over the Principles of the Ethical Practice of Public Health on page 4 of Principles of the Ethical Practice of Public Health. Take a few minutes to look up the ethics code for another health care discipline (provide some examples and links). Describe two ways that public health ethics are similar to another ethics code and two ways public health ethics are different.

 GUIDELINES

I have never taken any type of test similar to this, so I was a bit taken aback by the results.  According the the Jung test, I do not have any preference of extraversion over introversion.  I have always considered myself an introvert.  It appears that there is only a 3% difference, so this is a good thing.  It then goes on to tell me that I use my intuition slightly more sensing.  I am not quite sure that that indicates.  I also have no preference of feeling over thinking.  I have never thought I was judgmental, and this test tends to indicate I am not.  This puts me as a ENFJ type.  I am a benevolent pedagogue of humanity. I do not view myself as that charismatic, but I can always improve.

The Clark Civility Index test was also very interesting.  It puts me with a final score of 86, which means "Civil".  I accept that, as I tend to be very even-keel, and mellow.  I for sure have my opinions, but I am not overly vocal about them, as I tend to want to just have peace and stability in my life.

One area I would like to improve on is to be able to speak up more in the class room experience.  Since I am 55, I tend to end up in groups of people who are much younger than me, so the intimidation factor of dealing with younger people is always there.  Not sure quite why.

Another area is kind of related to what I just said above.  In my ever attempt to get attention, I tend to also have sarcastic comments, sometimes which might not be of any value to a group situation.  I would like to be able to tone down this for future group settings.

Being a former Ultrasound Technician, I can talk about that code of ethics.  Nonmaleficence asks and directs the technician not to cause harm. The proper education must be obtained, and this ties in with not causing harm.  The similarities of this compared to a X-ray tech are basically the same.  You need both the skillset to know the human body as well as the proper education to do these jobs.

Justice indicates differences in ethics on all levels. Because these skill sets are similar yet so different, the burden of doing the job falls differently on both the x-ray technician as well as the ultrasound technician.

Hi Brian,

Your calm demeanor is probably helpful when having to discuss complicated matters.  I can relate to you with my sarcasm, which I also need to work on. The civility test reminded me to listen, it’s an important factor in communication. I definitely think the tests make it easier to understand one another better and help with communication.

My HumanMetrics Jung Typology type is ISTJ. My results were 47% introvert, 1% sensing, 38% thinking, and 28% judging.  My Keirsey Temperament describes me as a guardian, concrete cooperator. The main traits that I can relate to under this temperament describe me as cautious, dependable, hard-working, and focused on traditions. For the team this means I am an active participant who will be present and participate.

A personal strength of mine is that I am very disciplined. I know how to prioritize work and provide the necessary attention to assignments/responsibilities to ensure they are completed on time while also understanding what can not be done and know when to ask for help. My independence causes issues for me at times. I like to meet deadlines and often move at my own pace, when working with a team not everyone has the same priorities or is dependable. I have learned communication is key and will continue to work on communication and patience when working in groups. I feel I will have accomplished this by the end of this year but ultimately will need to continue to work and improve on this matter.

Public health ethics are similar to social workers ethics in that they both revolve around improving health status for the well-being of society and address issues that create problems for the vulnerable populations (NASW, n.d.). As expected for a practitioner the benefit is on that of the individual. A dentist will have the best interest of an individual and advocate for the vulnerable population, which partly agrees with the ethics of public health (ADA, 2020). Most providers will benefit from having more patients whereas in public health reducing illness means lesser spending.  Links are listed below.

Jesica,

I am going to start my responses with you, as why not!  I noticed that your test labeled you as 47% introvert.  And you are a thinker as well.  I think everyone wants to be thought of as a thinker.  I guess it just depends on what you think about.  I always thought I was more of an introvert, but my test came back as the opposite.  I am cautious as well, and consider myself to be dependable and a hard worker.  It is amazing how answering some questions honestly can change your view on how you might or might not be perceived.  I do believe communication is the key, and it helps to keep the lines of communication open at all times when working in a group environment.   I liked what you had to say about the comparison of public health ethics and social workers ethics.  I agree with you in what you say about the similarities are there.  Improving health status and addressing problems to vulnerable populations are both the things they have in common, and are things that people in these professions deal with on a daily basis.

Hello Jesica,

I believe that your are a philosopher. After paying attention to the videos and studying the reading, I see that being an excellent thinker manner your are an introvert.  I sense that I'm a thinker as well because I'm a single mom determine and I am someone who think a lot.   I feel always being informed that being a thinker is a superb aspect.  I continually feel that I was more of an introvert, however my test was different.  I am cautious as properly, and remember myself to be reliable and a hard worker.  It is really crazy how answering some questions sincerely can determine your view on how you might or won't be perceived. I even have taken a similar check like this and it came out with similar qualities.  I do consider verbal exchange is the key, and it helps to preserve the traces of conversation open at all times whilst running in a collection environment.   I additionally preferred what you had to say about the contrast of public health ethics and social people ethics.  Improving health status and addressing problems to prone populations are both the matters they have got in common, and are things that people in those professions address on a day by day basis.

My HumanMetrics Jung Typology type is ENTJ. My consequences have been 19% extravert, 12% intuitive, 12% wondering, and 31% judging.  My Keirsey Temperament describes me as a rational, abstract utilitarian. The principal developments that I can relate to under this temperament describe me as problem fixing, even-tempered, skeptical, and pragmatic. For the group this means I am an active participant who will be present and take part.

One personal strength of mine is  I'm an excellent problem solver. I actually have the capability to provide you with modern solutions. I am a amazing trouble solver due to the fact I can compartmentalize all components of a hassle before studying it. I additionally want to convey greater skilled team individuals in to add to the solution. At instances I sense that being a problem solver can get me in trouble because occasionally I can come off as being aggressive however I’m not. I will continue to sharpen by problem-solving skills by being a good listener and continue to read for more knowledge. One area of my personal growth is improving my time management skills. I plan to achieve it by being intentional and making a to-do list the night before to start the next day. I will work on this daily. I feel I will have accomplished this by six-months but ultimately I will need to continue to work on this for a life-time because I feel its always room for improvement.

Social worker ethics and public health ethics are specific but together related. Both are professions with their own ethical foundations. Despite all variations, they have got the same purpose: to guard and to enhance the nicely-being of humans.  Ophthalmological services should be provided with compassion, recognize for human dignity, honesty and integrity. In public health ethic it has to to conduct themselves as exemplary citizens and experts with honesty, integrity, equity, kindness, and compassion.

Hello, Latona,

I liked what you had to say about your type.  So it appears you are a judger.  I truly wonder how they can extract all of this information from just answering questions, but I guess that is what makes this such a. interesting topic.  You have a bit of extravertism in you, so that is always a good thing.  Your temperament seems pretty even keel, so I suspect you are a good person to have in a group, as it appears you would listen to all sides before choosing a side.  I would be glad to have a person like you on my team, as problem solvers are always good to have, and usually are very proactive.  Being able to come up with a solution in a group setting is always something to strive for.  The ethics for both of the topics you are mentioning here are both very specific, but again, they do have the same or similar purpose.  The guarding and enhancing the well being and overall health of humans.  Well said.

My Humanmetrics Jung Typology results is INTJ. Something unique about this personality is that there are strengths and weaknesses. The strengths include the ability to be independent. Architects strive to do things their own way. Another strength of INTJs is that they are determined. This means that they are ambitious and goal-oriented. This is good for working in teams because the goals of the overall team is the same goals of an INTJ. Another strength is that I am versatile. This means that I am able to adapt to changing situations and work in a multitude of environments. Some weaknesses of INTJs is that they are overall critical. This can be a good or bad thing and, however INTJs tend to have a great deal of self-control. Based on my Clark Civility Index, one area of personal strength is my ability to adapt and work in multiple environments and I tend to get along with people well. I plan to keep on developing this strength by continuing to work with new people and faces. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them. Whether it be a friend or my fellow classmates. One area that I need to grow is my time management skills. I plan to achieve this goal throughout my life and get better slowly. I plan to do this by setting reminders and daily goals that I need to do to not fall behind and therefore work on my time management. One way public health ethics is similar to the ethics code of healthcare is that they both address the cause if disease. Another way they are similar is that both respect the rights of individuals. One way they are different is that the goal of public health ethics is to integrate the tools of ethical analysis into day-to-day operations. Another way they are different is that public health ethics is divided into a field of study and practice.

Hi Dillon,

Being able to adapt to change easily is one of the best strengths a person can have since some people really struggle with change. I'm also very independent, working in groups and team projects has taught me alot about myself and helped me identify some areas that I need to improve in. I'm looking forward to this semester, as I'm sure this course will allow me to improve on my areas of weakness.

Hello Dillon,

This was a great read.  I see that we have some like qualities.  Being able to adapt to change without problems is one of the quality strengths a person may have on account that a few human beings truly warfare with change. I'm additionally very unbiased, working in companies and group tasks has taught me alot about myself and helped me discover some regions that I want to improve in.  I'm a flexible person as properly. I am very friendly and I appearance to meet and speak to individuals as properly but I nevertheless need to work on my communications abilities.  Many time I'm instructed that when an person wrong me or if its something that I do not accept as true with I need to speak up and tell my proper feeling in place of shutting down and possible speaking to others about the situations.  I see that you need to work on time-management as nicely.  I am very horrific at time-management myself.  I am constantly forgetting to do some thing and I vow to working on better time control going ahead.  I need to be a better me for for myself and other and coping with my time has a lot to do with it.  Working in groups will help me with my personal increase and enhance my strengths.  I additionally preferred what you had to mention approximately the contrast of public health ethics and social people ethics.  Improving health popularity and addressing troubles to susceptible populations are both the subjects they have got in commonplace, and are matters that humans in the ones professions cope with on a day by day foundation.
