6. NARRATOR: Ready to spring an attack from a mysterious email attachment

7. CUT TO: RAT ATTEMPTING TO BREAK INTO A BUILDING AND STEAL INFORMATION

8. NARRATOR: And whilst most malware is designed to steal information, there’s a new scarier cyber-attack out there…ransomware.

9. CUT TO: A BIGGER MEANER LOOKING WOLF WEARING A SHIRT WITH A CAPITAL R ON IT LURKS OVER THE RAT

10. NARRATOR: Ransomware encrypts files, holding a computer hostage by limiting or restricting access

11. CUT TO: A LARGE KEEP OUT SIGN IN FRONT OF A DESKTOP

12. NARRATOR: After the system is kidnapped the criminals demand ransom money in return for restoring the files

13. CUT TO: A CONCERNED WOMAN READ A RANSOMWARE NOTE:

“IF YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR FILES AGAIN BRING ME MONEY”

15. NARRATOR: Last year 2500 reported cases cost victims $24 million dollars and recent studies show that incidents of ransomware are on pace to quadruple.

17. NARRATOR: Recently some security watchdogs have reported over 4000 ransomware attempts every day.

18. CUT TO: QUESTION MARKS POPPING UP ALL OVER THE SCREEN

19. NARRATOR: So how do hackers pull it off? By exploiting the most vulnerable part of our organisation, you are your fellow employees

20. CUT TO: LINEUP OF EMPLOYEES WITH A SPOTLIGHT ILLUMINATING THEM

21. NARRATOR: So, what can you do?

22. CUT TO: CLOSEUP OF A COMUTER MOUSE WITH A LIGHTBULB POPPING UP ABOVE IT

23. NARRATOR: First and foremost, think before you click.

24. CUT TO: POP UP OF PHISHING WINDOW: “CLICK HERE FOR FREE STUFF”

25. NARRATOR: Don’t click on website links or advertisements or on email attachments from unidentified or untrusted sources ever.

26. CUT TO: SMS MESSAGE FRON “YOUR MOM” WITH A PICTURE OF A WOLF

27. NARRATOR: Hackers will try to fool you with personalised phishing attempts, so be sceptical and check with IT right away if you receive and email that seems suspicious.

28. CUT TO WORD DOCUMENT WITH “ENABLE MACROS” POP UP

29. NARRATOR: And did you know that many ransomware attacks try to trick you into enabling macros in Microsoft Office documents? Never enable macros when viewing an attachment from someone you don’t trust.

30. CUT TO: IMAGE OF A USB DRIVE AND A NETWORK ROUTER

31. NARRATOR: Next, regularly back up critical data and disconnect external storage devices when not in use.

32. CUT TO WOMAN USING HER COMPUTER

33. NARRATOR: This keeps critical data safe in the event that a ransomware attack takes control of your computer.

3. NARRATOR: If you’ve been swimming around the email ocean for a while you’ve probably gotten pretty good at avoiding common phishing attempts.

4. CUT TO: AN ANGRY LOOKING OCTOPUS COMES OUT OF THE OCEAN AND STARTS EMPTYING A BIN OF LOT AND LOTS OF POSTERS/FLYERS.

5. NARRATOR: You know, the ones where lazy hackers throw a bunch of bait into the water hoping you’ll take the bait.

6. CUT TO: CLOSE UP OF MAN IN THE BOAT CAREFULLY PICKING UP A POSTER/FLYER AND DROPPING IT BACK INTO THE OCEAN.

7. NARRATOR: Well they’re not fooling you, and your scepticism about simple phishing attempts goes a long way toward keeping you and our network safe.

8. CUT TO: CLOSE UP OF A BAD GUY IN A LIBRARY READING A BOOK TITLED “ELEMENTS OF SOPHISTICATED HACKING”

9. NARRATOR: The bad news is the bad guys are getting tricker all the time.

19. NARRATOR: Then they create targeted email messages, phone calls and even social media contacts.

20. CUT TO: POP UP WINDOW SHOWING A MESSAGE ON “BUBBLEFRIEND”

21. NARRATOR: Trying to get you to let down your guard and click on that email they send, one containing malware that infects your computer and gets them inside our network.

23. NARRATOR: You can fight back against spear phishing by strengthening the skills you use for regular phishing.
