Total possible points

75

Article

This can be an audio or video piece (such as on NPR radio) or a written piece from a news source such as NPR, BBC, MSNBC, FOX News, Huffington Post, New York Times, etc. (If you are not sure if it’s a news source, check with me!) Print & attach article to paper!

5

Summary of article

Like any summary: what is the main point of the article? What is the supporting evidence/points? Why did you choose this article (why is it interesting to you?)

15

Connection to anthropology

Which field of anthropology does it relate to? (evolutionary, cultural, linguistic, a subfield such as medical, applied, forensics, primatology)? (Could be multiple)

Give specifics of aspects (of culture or biology, etc.) it relates to (such as gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, power structures, politics, economy, evolution, globalization, etc.) What does it say about these aspects?

15

Critique

Anthropological methods: participant observation; interviews. Are various interested parties interviewed or represented, or is just one side of the story shown? Is it based on empirical evidence? Does it consider context: historical, economic, cultural, etc.? And the intersection of these (holistic)? How might an anthropologist write it differently? What else would they include? (These are just ideas to get you started. Full credit papers will include a well thought-out critique, not necessarily just the answers to these questions).
