Ethics in Meat Eating

Meat eating should be avoided due to the moral concerns from animal keeping practices.

Bramble, B., & Fischer, B. (2016). The moral complexities of eating meat. New York, NY: Oxford University Press. https://www.worldcat.org/title/moral-complexities-of-eating-meat/oclc/905517893&referer=brief_results

I chose this article since it argues against meat eating and has evidence that it is morally wrong due to the painful experience that these animals undergo. The author contends that animals moral rights should be upheld and that the ongoing butchering and harsh conditions they are kept in, makes it ethically wrong to kill them and obtain meat.

Smil, V. (2013). Should we eat meat?: Evolution and consequences of modern carnivory. New York: Wiley. https://www.worldcat.org/title/should-we-eat-meat-evolution-and-consequences-of-modern-carnivory/oclc/831119168&referer=brief_results

The text is essential as it supports the argument by critiquing meat consumption globally. The book provide evidence that meat and its growing influence in the establishment of agricultural practices to be the leading cause of poor farming practices. Instead of keeping animals in a healthy environment, there is overstocking of animals in animal firms since they are used for economic gain. As a result, humans tend to infringe animal rights which is not a good way of human and animals relationship.

Rogers, K. (2019). Is it wrong to eat meat?. New York: KidHaven Publishing. https://www.worldcat.org/title/is-it-wrong-to-eat-meat/oclc/1048609475&referer=brief_results

The article questions the ethics in eating meat and gives evidence why it morally wrong to eat meat. Notably, the author illustrates how people abuse animal rights, factory farming cruelty on animals, and how humans have become predators. People continue to keep animals in pathetic conditions that are not fit for survival like in factory settings where hundreds can be locked in a single space. Moreover, the human has become predators of animals which it affects the survival of animals.

Hsiao, T. (2015). In defense of eating meat. Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics28(2), 277-291. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10806-015-9534-2

I chose this source because it does not support the argument by critiquing meat consumption globally, and has evidence that eating meat is good and should be embraced especially by vegetarians. The author suggests that even though these animals undergo some pain physically, they do not have moral judgment. Besides, harm brought to animals is not moral kinds. Thus the lack of moral sentiment among animals makes it right to eat meat.

Thorslund, C. A., Sandøe, P., Aaslyng, M. D., & Lassen, J. (2016). A good taste in the meat, a good taste in the mouth–Animal welfare as an aspect of pork quality in three European countries. Livestock science193, 58-65. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1871141316302128

I chose this source because it does not support the argument by critiquing meat consumption globally, and has evidence the way meat eating is gaining prevalence in European countries even in the eyes of animals welfare. In particular, the main reason is that the way consumers perceive meat consumption and any meat practice is right and that eating meat is a moral practice. Animal Welfare can be used for the identification of meat qualities.
