Module 2 | Part 2: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics

I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and writing, as well as the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of my academic work while a student of the MSN program, as well as my professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results of these efforts are shared below.

Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity

The relationship between academic integrity and writing is deeply interconnected, as the integrity of one's academic work relies on the honesty and originality of their written output. Academic integrity is the practice of students creating their own work and acknowledging the origins of their ideas, which promotes a culture of honesty and trust in the academic community (Brown et al., 2020). Writing with integrity include the precise and truthful representation of material, the avoidance of plagiarism, and the proper citation of sources. These practices are crucial for upholding the reputation and dependability of academic work. Moreover, it is essential to establish a strong connection between professional practices and academic ethics to guarantee the reliability and ethical integrity of the knowledge generated and implemented in professional environments. Scholarly ethics involve the fundamental values of honesty, objectivity, and respect for intellectual property. These concepts are crucial for upholding the integrity of research and professional practices (Resnik, 2020). By adhering to these ethical norms, professionals are able to maintain the confidence bestowed upon them by the public and guarantee that their contributions to their respective professions are regarded with respect and appreciation. Grammarly and Turnitin are valuable tools that contribute significantly to maintaining academic integrity. They assist students in creating authentic content and preventing inadvertent plagiarism. Grammarly improves writing by offering suggestions for grammar and style, so enhancing the clarity and quality of academic papers. Turnitin, however, detects resemblances between a student's work and pre-existing sources, facilitating accurate referencing and guaranteeing the uniqueness of the content. Paraphrasing, when executed properly, also enhances academic integrity by restating concepts using a student's own language while acknowledging the original author. These tools jointly uphold the norms of academic and professional integrity by encouraging ethical writing methods and ensuring correct reporting of sources.

PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

In order to maintain the honesty and moral principles of my academic work as a student in the MSN program, I will employ many tactics. Initially, I will continually employ the utilization of Grammarly and Turnitin to guarantee that my writing is lucid, well-organized, and devoid of any instances of plagiarism. These tools will enable me to generate academic work of superior quality that conforms to ethical norms. In addition, I will consistently and comprehensively cite all sources, according to APA format to appropriately acknowledge the original authors and prevent any instances of academic dishonesty. In addition, I will actively participate in periodic evaluations conducted by my peers and actively solicit input from my teachers to enhance the caliber and credibility of my work. Engaging in collaboration with my academic network, which includes fellow students such as Armando Socarras and Dieter Fundora, will offer chances for reciprocal assistance and responsibility, guaranteeing that we all uphold elevated ethical principles in our academic endeavors. As a nurse in my professional capacity, I will maintain the values of integrity and ethics by following the guidelines established by professional nursing organizations and regulatory agencies.
