Abstract

My project is a fund-raising activity that should solicit for funds that should go to facilities that support homeless children and youths. The venture will provide economical support to children who have attained adulthood and have not found employment. These individuals will receive an allowance for five months for their survival before they can find employment to support themselves. It will also support facilities with children who suffer from chronic ailments such as diabetes and aids among others by catering for their healthcare expenses until they reach adulthood and find employment. In the event that they are unemployment during this time, the project will still support them for a year after which they will be required to support themselves.

The project is significant and innovative because it caters for an area that does not receive much support from society. Many projects seek to support children and youths until adulthood, and thereafter help them find employment. However, not many offer financial support that these individuals really need to kick start this journey of their lives (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2017). In addition, many projects offer financial support for facilities that take in homeless kids and youth, but do not have comprehensive care programs for chronically ill persons (National Health Care for the Homeless Council, 2016). Instead, they are required to budget from their normal support funds to cater for this matter.

I was inspired to start this project after learning about the plight of the jobless youths who can no longer be kept in these facilities that need to take in more kids in need. Also, I visited a facility in my region that had a high number of children who suffered from chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and aids. I was moved because I had never thought that children could suffer from some of these conditions until that day. After learning about their dietary and medical needs and the challenge they undergo to ensure that they sustain these kids, I promised myself that I would do something to assist in this area. I therefore believe that this project should receive funding to help with the sustenance of the children and to equip the facilities as well.

Supporting children with chronic illnesses is a better solution because it will help the facilities to equip themselves, which will help to reduce the burden of visiting hospitals thereby bringing down their expenses. Children with diabetes, for example, can have their blood sugar levels monitored from their homes. However, this can only be possible if they can receive support to recruit a nurse who can carry out some of these procedures. The cost of this process will be faster and cheaper than having to use transportation means to visit a clinic, which adds on to the expense. As for the older children, helping them with survival allowances will help to encourage them to face life and take the time to find good employment without worrying about how to meet their basic needs. Currently, most facilities are helping to find them employment placements or provide a small allowance that can only help them survive for a short time.
