Keijsers, Loes, et al. "Forbidden friends as forbidden fruit: Parental supervision of friendships,

contact with deviant peers, and adolescent delinquency." Child development 83.2 (2012):

651-666. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8624.2011.01701.x The research investigates

how spending leisure time with deviant peers may influence the delinquency of

adolescents. The study was taken from an ongoing longitudinal project to determine the

processes of influence from peer and family context on the abnormal and normal

behavioral development of adolescents. The participants selected for this study were 497

Dutch youths with a mean age of 13 years and 283 of them being boys. Both parents and

the best friends of the participants were also involved in the study. Annual questionnaires

were administered to get the data. Cross-lagged panel analysis was used to link

adolescent delinquency to deviant peers. The results from the research showed that

parent-reported prohibition of friendship positively predicted contact with deviant peers.

The results from the study suggested that forbidden friends may lead to an unintended

increase in adolescent delinquency.

Petrosino, Anthony, Carolyn Turpin Petrosino, and John Buehler. "Scared Straight” and other

juvenile awareness programs for preventing juvenile delinquency." Campbell Systematic

Reviews 1.1 (2005): 1-62. https://doi.org/10.4073/csr.2004.2 This research was a

systematic review aimed to determine the impact of programs that have organized visits

to prisons by juvenile predelinquents or delinquents with the aim of detaching them from

criminal activities. Studies that were considered were selected either randomly or quasi-

randomly. Each study had to be a no-treatment control and should have a post-visit

criminal measure. Meta-analysis was conducted on the post-intervention offending rates

that have official data. The analysis of this research showed that the intervention was not

helpful and caused even more harm. The meta-analytic strategy showed to be negative in

direction, showing a negative effect of the intervention. The authors concluded that this

intervention had a harmful effect and increased delinquency among the youths.

Therefore, they recommend that this intervention should not be used as a crime

prevention strategy.

Nydreah, the annotations are detailed descriptions of the sources from

scholarly journals, demonstrating your understanding of the work.

Evaluative work is sound, based on clear criteria. Info on author

credentials would be good. I would have liked seeing info on how both

sources would help with your project. Mechanical issues don’t distract

from your presentation. Formatting meets requirements of the style for

this topic. I have included your assignment with my comments as a PDF

file. The comments are visible in the PDF file as soon as you open it. The

completed rubric shows points earned and comments. Thanks for your

efforts here. Susan
