MBA-550 Leadership Paper Guidelines (100 points)
DUE: December 13, 2020
Instructions
You will explore and discuss the topic of leadership in the next century. What will leadership look like in 10 to 20 years? You will research and discuss "innovative and cutting edge" topics (inside and outside of class) that relates to leadership. You will need to demonstrate that you have conducted thorough research on leadership; and read and viewed the assigned texts and videos critically. Focus on interpreting a specific aspect of what you have learned rather than skimming the surface or giving general comments or opinions. A good starting point is to briefly identify how the course and your understanding of leadership have personally impacted you, then move on to a critical approach, theme, or analysis of basic elements (such as exploring how leadership will look in the future). Assessment
The Leadership Paper Rubric will be used to evaluate your paper. Review all rubric elements to help you effectively prepare your response to this assignment.
Tips to help you write your paper:
2. This is your chance to add your thoughts and critically explore what you have read and experienced. Do you know more about your leadership now than when you first started? Explain how.
3. The paper is meant to illustrate your understanding of the material and how it affects your ideas and possible practice of leadership in the future.
4. Begin by jotting down some of the reading material, videos, class experiences, and research on your project that stand out in your mind. Decide why they stand out to you.
5. It may be helpful to use the restorative questions to generate some of your thoughts and feelings about the course experience. What questions or topics related to leadership do you still have?
6. Consider if and how what you have read, researched, and learned changes your thinking and might affect your practice in both personal and professional situations.
7. Review the readings and class notes to be sure you’ve included all the relevant information you can and made all the connections you can.
8. Give your paper structure with an abstract, introduction, literature review, discussion, and conclusion.
9. It may be helpful to write the body of the paper first by using Steps 4-7, and then decide what your opening paragraph should say. The opening paragraph may be brief, only a sentence or two, but it should offer some overall statement of your perspective based on what you’ve learned.
10. The purpose of the introduction is to tell the reader what the paper is about, i.e., the topic covered and to tell the reader what to expect. The introduction also should alert the reader to the nature of the paper, i.e., whether it is research on a particular topic formulated after a literature review, a paper about a program or service, or an essay that takes a position on the topic.
11. The discussion of the paper should take the reader on a well thought out journey. This includes discussing your interpretation the literature review and making observations based on these findings. Think of the discussion section as an opportunity to tell the reader a story about the topic.
12. The conclusion is an opportunity to bring your thoughts together in some way that provides closure for the reader. The conclusion should state what the paper accomplished, did it do what it set out to do? Did the paper ask questions in the introduction that were addressed in the body of the essay and were answers found to these questions? If the paper was intended to inform the reader about something, the conclusion is where the author can briefly restate some of the main points made in the body of the paper and organize them in a sort of short hand format.
13. Include in-text references and a reference page for any materials you cite using APA citation format.
14. Make sure you demonstrate how your research connects to the conclusion that you made.
