Research Paper
Friday:
Practical Connection Project= 200 points
Description: First (individually, not with your team) write and describe in (500 words) the knowledge you gained in this course so far and how it has been applied or will be applied in a practical manner to your current or future work environment. This will be submitted in ilearn tonight. NEXT, (as a team) you establish a Fake Startup Company that will be the foundation for your Sunday research finding presentation. This company can be about anything you like, but should integrate real life connections to your job, or future employment positions you hope to gain and will be the platform for your research presentation Sunday. When preparing your fake Startup company, please identify your role in the Startup Company and explain what expertise you possess that led you to this position while addressing most of the questions below in the Friday area. The purpose of this is to give your Sunday presentation a professional feeling when you present your research paper to us.

Saturday:
Research Project= 200 points
Description: In your assigned Teams, you will select a topic from the Saturday list and proceed to work as a team carefully researching the topic. You will all write the paper collectively together, taking each separate piece as you decide. Your research must be detailed and follow the exact template I provided to you. This will take up most of the day. I will complete random check-ins with you to receive updates on team progress and answer questions. This is due Saturday night. Please note that your Sunday presentation will combine both the research findings from this paper and information from your Friday night Startup. The means you will prepare a FANTASTIC presentation Sunday that is presented to us as if you are a Startup company coming to share information about your company and the research you discovered. ONLY one person will submit the research paper assignment in iLearn on behalf of your team. All your names will be on the research paper, and I will submit grade for each person based on the single paper submitted from your team. Please note that if you do not equally participate this will be noted by your team and points will be reduced accordingly.

Sunday: PowerPoint Presentation= 200 points Description: In teams you will present your findings (pre-recorded in Zoom or another tool) based on your research and experience learned in the past weeks. You will present a sales pitch about your startup company and your research paper. It will relate it to your mock Startup Company. Think of it this way… You want me to believe in your startup company, so you need to prove to me that you know what you are talking about. The best way to do this is to back up your works with research. Since you already have the research paper completed from Saturday, use some of that information to make your points believable. Example: If you have a startup company that seeks to change the way a business currently operates, then you would do the following in your video/PPT:
First: Tell me about your startup and give me a short breakdown of who you are and what you are selling/providing. This information will come from the Friday Startup questions you already completed.
Next: You would be clear and identify your individual roles and expertise that allows us to feel that you are a pretend CEO, CTO, CFO can be trusted and have the background knowledge to be selling us on your product/service.
Then: You will share with us some detailed information that you learned because of your Saturday research and apply these concepts/research to your startup and your overall plan for success of your Startup.
Finally: Be sure to relate the research points you make to your startup and explain to us that your company is on the right path to success based on your strategies, personal knowledge, and research performed.
You will create your PowerPoint and present it with your team. Show your video in the recorded video, and make sure everyone has an active part in the presentations. Speak clearly and loudly so that we can hear you. You will need to submit the video PowerPoint to the iLearn dropbox that I setup for you.
Only (ONE) 1 team representative needs to submit the video link in the iLearn dropbox. You will Create a document with the whole team’s name on it and a short description of the video I am going to watch. Then you will insert the video link into the document and submit the document in iLearn dropbox for me to review. This is due today; however, I have kept the dropbox open until Monday to offer a little extra time creating your video. You do not need to submit it to the discussion board as previously mentioned. NOTE: you do not need to create a fancy video or edit it like you are a professional movie crew member. A simple PPT with you and your team speaking will do for this purpose. Please make this FUN and informative. EACH student must speak, show themselves in the video and present information in detail otherwise you will not get credit.
I would like to add these steps…
1. I uploaded a Sunday - PPT template in iLearn under the Residency area.
1. You can use that template along with ZOOM to record your presentation for Sunday.
1. We will meet in the morning as usual, then you have the morning to work on the Team PPT and Team Video.
1. My suggestion is to record the ZOOM meeting presentation privately with your team and then upload it to YouTube.
1. One person from your team will email me a WORD document with a description of video link with everyone’s name on the document.
1. The team presentations are NOT going to be live to the class, rather I will review the video recordings after they are submitted to the dropbox in iLearn.
1. I will give you a little extra time to submit the Sunday Presentation, so the worst-case scenario you have until Monday morning to get it to me.
1. Please review the direction in the Residency guide in addition to these steps.
