The Bachelor/Bachelorette Triangle Project

THE BACHELOR/BACHELORETTE PROJECT Here’s the breakdown of this project. There are examples and more explanation on further slides.

● You will be assigned one bachelor/bachelorette and their 3 contestants. ● Your bachelor/bachelorette has one soulmate of the 3 contestants-- that’s who you are searching

for. Their soulmate is congruent to the bachelor/bachelorette. You will need to show how you know they are congruent and what theorem you used.

● There will also be a runner up-- the last contestant remaining before the bachelor/bachelorette presents the final rose. This contestant is similar to the bachelor/bachelorette. You will need to identify the runner up, how you knew they are similar, and explain similar vs. congruent.

● You need to have at least 5 slides (or you can do it on paper or whatever format thatlooks nice!) 1. Introduce your bachelor/bachelorette and what makes them desirable. 2. Show the three contestants. You can name them/introduce them, but no math is required. 3. Introduce the first contestant to get kicked off (this one is neither congruent nor similar).

Explain why by saying the side lengths and angles. 4. The runner up. This one is similar. Explain why. Explain similar vs. congruent. 5. Bum bum bum… the final rose goes to the congruent winner! Tell me how you knew, show

the measures and name the theorem.

SLIDE 1! Introduce your bachelor/bachelorette. Choose if they are bachelor or bachelorette. What are their measurements? Name? Home town? Interests? (creativity is part of your grade)

Welcome to The Bachelor… meet our handsome bachelor, Matt Maddox! He’s a handsome, right triangle who is just right for one of our lucky contestants.

As you can see, Matt Maddox is VERY handsome. He loves long walks at the grocery store, eating celery, and instead of a lawn, Matt grows native plants on every inch of his property. He does this because he loves the environment. It does not look good.

Matt Maddox is from Cleveland and he does not want to talk about it.

Matt Maddox is looking for a lovely triangle who is congruent with him. He wants a lady who fits right in with him, the same size and same shape, exactly congruent. (He’s kind of a jerk, huh? But it makes for good TV.)

EXAMPLE

If you’re wondering how I made that triangle, I started just making a triangle using this menu.

You can change the outline color and fill color on the same menu once you select the triangle.

How did I get the face and bowtie though? Use the Insert > Image > Search the web. Then type what you are looking for + png. A png file has a clear background! I used “facial expression png” and “bowtie png” for those.

SLIDE 3 Introduce the first one eliminated. What went wrong? What are their

measurements? Why’d they have to go home??

RUNNER UP This one is similar to the bachelor/bachelorette. Explain how you know they are similar. Show the bachelor(ette) and runner up with congruent parts marked & similarity ratio.

ANNOUNCE THE WINNER!

It would fun to build this up and add suspense, but

you don’t have to. Do explain how you know they

are congruent-- mention specific measurements,

including congruence markings, and the theorem

you used.

HOW TO GET A 100%

MATHEMATICS Include the

measures of any angles and sides

that matter. Name the theorems you

used.

CREATIVITY Be creative with

the bachelor format.

REQUIREMENTS Follow the rubric.

PRESENTATION Make it look

organized, include colors and images, and clearly present

information.
