CHILDD 148- Foundations of Early Childhood Education

By: Andre Ester 11/22/2020

Priority Number One

First priority is to always remember to respect, value and accept all children no matter what. Children are little people with big personalities, but they also have feelings and it is important to embody a healthy relationship with them first and foremost. I want to make it a priority to get to know each and every child very well as well as develop that relationship with their parents to ensure the safety and developmental success of every child I teach.

Promoting Development and Learning

Rich Variety of Experiences

Each child is encouraged to be unique and whomever they are. Children are able to experience the warmth and love from me and those around. Knowing that they are welcome no matter what they are going through. Children are also well adjusted to program environment and encourage to engage in new friendships. They experience conflict, but also experience the resolution to it. Children find new and healthy solutions of learning.

Opportunities of Choice

Children will have the opportunity to choose whatever they want to with a child-centered play. There will be enrichment through culture, different toy and sensory items available for child development as well as technology to enhance the learning process. Making sure there are enough items for children so there are less conflicts and letting the child guide what happens with play is important to see how well their social-emotional development plays a role.

Environment

The environment that a child is in needs to be inviting, it needs to be spacious, there needs to be enough sensory items for the child to play with and it should be eye catching to the child as well. It is important that everything is available at their level and easy for them to grab since it is their learning environment. It also needs to be safe. Things that are harmful to a child needs to be completely out of reach and locked up for their protection. The environment we promote for a child needs to be a healthily and educational one filled with books and quiet areas for down time.

Curriculum

A well developed curriculum for the children will help to promote the development of learning for them. It will also help to promote social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive learning. It is important to develop activities to target these areas of learning so that special focus can be put on each child who is having a developmental delay. Activities will be designed to help children with problem solving, using language, reasoning, and encouraging them to experiment and learn with one another to enhance specific skills.

Family Relationship

The relationship between me the professional and the family is especially important. We are team working together for the safety and development of each child. In order for progression of development in each child it is important that families work together with staff and myself to ensure that everyone has what they need for proper success. There are multiple resources available and as a provider I will have those resources available for the parents. I am also the biggest advocate for the child and the parent and if there is something that they need I am going to be there to be able to help ensure they have it.

Family Relationship

Family relationships are top priority. Being a teacher and networking to other businesses and resource sites helps bring a major advantage to the families I work with. It helps to build the trust and respect factors that are so desperately needed when you are caring for someone else’s children. Also making sure that families are completely involved in the decision making is really important for the relationship to grow amongst professionals and families.

Assessments

Why Assessments?

Assessments and screenings provide valuable information about a child’s interest, strengths, and needs. Each assessment is a snapshot of a child’s development and where they are developmental.

How can I assess?

Assessments can be done by having ongoing assessments with the child. These are different learning activities that a child has to see where they are in the program. Observations is another key assessment to support the information about the child and their development. Anecdotal noting is important so that a teacher can recall what they noticed a child doing at a particular time to see if there is a pattern.

Assessments

Assessments should fall on the teacher to complete because they are with the child the majority of the time. They are able to know what a child is capable of doing and how well they are on their milestone tracking. A teacher also should be doing observations daily with different students to be sure there is enough note taking and knowledgeable information about the child before making any suggestions to the parents. Teachers are able to have the rapport with the parents and find ways to get the child onto task so that they can move onto the next level. With the suggestions that the teachers make, parents can help implement them at home for further success.

Milestones

Milestones are really

Important for any child.

Teaching and Learning

When a teaching professional schedules activities for the child it is geared for the success and achievement of that child. With that being said what is being taught is really important and needs to have a positive and supportive interaction amongst the teacher and families for the success of each child. Using effective tools and strategies is important and should be individualized for each child for their success as well. Each child learns differently and one cannot assume every child knows everything.

Teaching and Learning

Implementing new skills and ideas to children will help promote social/emotional development, physical development, language development and cognitive development. Creating an environment enriched with activities, interests, needs and wants for children will help enhance their learning experiences. They will be able to have a healthy learning environment promoted by the professionals and parents, but with the interests of the children for the developmental success.

Professionalism

Everything that I do and who I am has everything to do with being a professional. The way I walk, the way I talk, the way I help, the way I promote everything that I do has to and will be done in a professional manner at all times. I am a mandated reporter and it is my duty to protect all children and families that are amongst me or will one day be in my center. I am trusted to protect and help the children and that is what I intend to do. I will be attentive and reliable when it comes to learning and teaching processes of each child. I am an educator not a babysitter. I am here to make sure each child develops and advances to the next stage in their age group.

Professionalism

I adhere to ethical standards and laws as well as all professional guidelines. This will be done with the rapport from families and other staff members as well as being respectful. Continuous learning and training throughout the year is needed so that I can stay up on new techniques in teaching and enhancements in the learning development of children. Being a professional I am an advocate first and foremost for the families and the children. Whatever I have to do step up and speak on their behalf I will be able to do that for them. Also becoming a member of NAEYC will be a benefits for further learning and educational processes.

Self Assessment

Knowledge

Everyday I am learning something new. I do not know it all and never will. There is always opportunities to learn new things and grow. I have learned so many new things that I can a wealth of knowledge and resources to the next person who needs help.

Advocate

I know that I am an advocate for the children and families that I come into contact with. No matter what I do I am a reflection of my professors and what I learned and that means doing what I need to in order to protect the children I come in contact with and advocate for families.

Self Assessment

Communication

I learned it is important to communicate properly and to make sure that the other person understands what you are talking about. It is important to not only communicate the information properly but to make sure that you are actively listening to the next person as well.

Connections

I will use the connections and resources that I have to better help the families that I will be serving. I want to make sure that they are able to have the same opportunities as the next person. It is important to me that everyone succeeds.

Goals

Overall, my goal is to have a childcare center / youth center where I can help at risk youth and make a difference in their lives. I want children to know that they deserve a chance and there will always be someone to stand beside them to help them through. I want to obtain all the knowledge and information that I can to help make those necessary changes. I want to create a foundation and additional learning experiences for my own children so they can help others one day too.
