Project Three

Integration Methods

The Project will give experience with various substitutions to aid in integration, as well as the use of

Integration Tables and computer applications.

Recall the integral:

∫ 1.39𝑠4 + 0.84𝑠3 + 0.98𝑠2 + 1.13𝑠 + 0.54

0.55𝑠5 + 1.57𝑠3 + 0.6𝑠 𝑑𝑠

In the previous Project, you used Partial Fraction Decomposition in preparation for integration.

Note: You should not continue with the Project until you have received a grade for Project Two, and have

confirmed the correctness of your results.

How many fractions do you have? For each fraction, if it can be integrated directly, do so. If it requires

a substitution, indicate whether it will be a u-substitution or trigonometric, the use that to integrate. Be

sure to show all necessary steps. If you choose to use a table to integrate, be sure to indicate the

general form as well as the final result.

Finally, find an application that will do Symbolic – not Numeric! – Integration. Are these result equal to

yours? Are they equivalent?
