Mason-Mitroff Orientation to Critical Thinking
By Dr. Kathaleena E. Monds
Instructions: You will notice on the Course Syllabus under the Teaching and Learning Steps section that you will be given Assessments using the Mason-Mitroff approach to critical thinking. Questions will either be Unstructured (no box will be provided into which you can respond) or Structured essay questions (answers will be typed in a limited amount of space; thus, eliminating the potential for ‘fluff’). The following are SAMPLES of essay using the Mason & Mitroff Critical Thinking Model. The model uses a Claim- >Data->Rebuttal template.
Remember, critical thinkers find weaknesses in their own arguments before others find those weaknesses.
