Describe "Smart Borders" in the context of detection capability?

- The Smart Borders declaration was created and signed post 9/11 with Canada. It was built on a 30 point action plan which includes biometric identifiers, permanent resident cards, single alternative inspection system, refugee/asylum processing and managing of refugee/asylum claims to name a few points. It's objective was to boost the security of our shared border while facilitating the legitimate flow of people and goods. It's action plan featured four pillars which include the secure flow of people, the secure flow of goods, secure infrastructure and information sharing and coordination in the enforcement of these objectives.

Examine Intellectual Property (IP) theft/violations and the economic impact of border security in 2020?

- Intellectual Property (IP) is defined as a creation or design by an individual, such as music, manuscripts that could hold a patent or copyright.  Counterfeiting and piracy erode the returns on innovation and slow economic growth because of the negative impacts on companies, consumers and governments. 

What can be done to address the Chinese efforts at wholesale IP theft? (LO6.1 & LO6.2)

- With the world's growth of cyber network within the last few decades so does our adversaries trying to attack our nation through the cyber network. To address China's efforts of wholesale IP theft, it would be a public/private collaboration between the Defense Department (DoD) and the defense industry, which balances the objective of imposing costs on adversaries with the risks of escalation. It's main focus would highlight comprehensive cyber protection, infrastructure resilience, risk management center and emergency communications.
