Running Head: POTATO ENTREPRENEUR

POTATO ENTREPRENEUR

Argosy University

I am planning to start a manufacturing company that deals with large-scale potato farming on 10 acres of land. I will farm potatoes throughout the year; regardless of the prevailing season because I will be relying on the water that will be supplied through drip irrigation and also I will construct greenhouses to provide a microenvironment to potatoes. The primary source of water will be a borehole that has the capability of supplying 500 liters of water per day. I will also start an agribusiness consultancy firm that will be training farmers on the economic methods of doing potato farming.

My source of revenue will come from selling potatoes and selling potato seedlings. I will also sell the extra 100 litres of water because the drip irrigation system will only be using 400 litres of water. I will also be charging a fee on the consultancy services that I will be offering.

I am anticipating incurring several expenses, for example, the cost of potato seedlings, which is both a direct and product cost. I will also bear labor cost because of employees who will be weeding, planting, spraying and harvesting potatoes, which is both a direct and product cost. I will also incur a lease fee for a 10-acre plot of land; this is both an indirect and period cost.

Simply put, strategic planning determines exactly where your organization is going over the next few years and how it's going to get there (bdc.ca, n.d.). My business idea will comply with the three UN strategic plans because I will be providing food security and eradicating poverty through employment. Besides, I will be using the green source of energy that is renewable because I will be using a solar irrigation pump to drill water from the borehole.
