Executive Summary

Blast Analytics and Mitigation Inc. (BAaM) was formed as a strategic consulting, products and services company to leverage the institutional knowledge that our team has acquired on blast exposure monitoring in operational research. We have the unique opportunity to improve rates of early detection and diagnosis of blast related injuries to effectively fight and prevent the long-term consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) related to blast overpressure exposure. Currently the DoD is developing multiple programs to measure and mitigate the effects of occupational blast exposure from repetitive use of conventional weapon systems to maintain mission readiness, lethality, and to preserve the force.

Our mission is to bring innovative blast monitoring, analytics, and mitigation products and services to both the civilian and military markets to intercept blast induced TBI (bTBI) to enhance civilian law enforcement and military operator’s brain health.

Our solution is to develop and provide blast exposure monitoring (BEMO) products and services with the goal of identifying operators who are at risk of bTBI and to help our customers and their doctors Our vision is to leverage the real-world experience our team has acquired to provide:

• Integrative solutions that combine best in class hardware components to form disruptive technologies that complement traditional body worn sensor systems

• Further BEMO brain health initiatives through our blast vectoring system when used with our novel vectoring algorithm

• Filtering algorithms to identify artifacts from real events, and identify weapon systems based upon their distinct pressure-time signatures (small arms, heavy weapons, and indirect fire weapons)

• Report visualization tools that can quickly inform command of blast exposure events that may impact warfighter brain health and performance

• Standardized mapping services to build a small arms and heavy weapon system signature library

• Design and develop mitigation products with the goal of minimizing intrusion in training scenarios

Industry and Market Analysis

Personal Protective Equipment Industry: Blast Exposure Monitoring Operations

Operators in this industry manufacture personal protective equipment. This includes protective equipment for hands, feet, eyes, ears, faces and respiratory systems. This industry also manufactures ergonomic and fall protection equipment, as well as protective clothing, such as hazmat suits and reflective vests. The global law enforcement personal protective equipment market size was valued at USD 2.55 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.0% from 2020 to 2027. The rise in asymmetric warfare in various countries, coupled with an increasing focus on ensuring police survivability, is expected to drive the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) over the forecast period. Riots around the world have increased by more than 280% in the last ten years. Furthermore, the pandemic has increased the demand-supply gap of PPE products through lack of raw materials, labor shortage, and lockdowns. The rise in the number of victim officers killed with firearms or IED explosions in the past decade has created a surge in demand for combat helmets in recent years. Growing efforts made by governments across the globe to manufacture lightweight advanced combat helmets, along with increasing government subsidies and donations to help stabilize law enforcement positions, are expected to boost the demand for head protection gears over the coming years. Our product should be used for these helmets and become a staple for all combat helmets being produced.

Consulting Services Industry

The consulting services industry provides expert advice to organizations in exchange for a fee. Consulting services advise businesses in financial services, sales strategy, health and environmental concerns, software development and maintenance, marketing strategy, human resources, and more. According to the Business and Management Consulting Report, “the total market size for consultancies in the United States (2020) was over $69 Billion US Dollars.” The market is expected to grow at about a 2.3% growth rate over the next year. A majority of the consulting services revenue is earned from corporate and private firms. However, over the last year, there has been an increase in government investments in consulting services.

Direct Competitors:

BlackBox Biometrics: The Blast Gauge System- https://blastgauge.com/

The Blast Gauge System detects blast overpressure and wirelessly logs the results on an application. The device is about a 1”x1.5” and has three sensors that mount to the rear helmet straps. The sensors use a color-coded system to display the different levels of blast detection. The green light is for exposure between 0-4 psi. The yellow light shows exposure between 4-16 psi. The red light is for exposure above 16 psi, or severe exposure. The app interface allows personnel to monitor the user’s exposure in real-time. The Blast Gauge uses a non-rechargeable battery guaranteed to withstand two years of use.

Sofwerx- https://sofwerx.org/ located in Florida

Started to make a Blast Overpressure wearable sensor that is capable of detecting , recording, and assessing real-time blast direction and blast exposure (blast body dose) for personnel.

DARPA- Under a DARPA contract, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) developed the Blast Gauge, a small device worn by warfighters to measure blast exposure and cue medics for initial response.

Market and Segment Analysis

Summary of Market

Our target market for our product is primarily the police and sheriff departments of Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. These law enforcement agencies are going to be our primary consumers for our cutting edge technology which will assist in the resistance to various types of weapons. With the assistance of their statistical data and research we can help distribute our technology with them and build successful partnerships to help benefit the safety of law enforcement and the people they are boldly trying to protect.

Summary of Market Segments

Market segmentation

Geographic - Since Blast Analytics is a San Diego based company, we are focusing our marketing efforts on virtually exclusively Southern California counties. Since these areas are so populous and densely populated focusing on billboard advertising in these areas could be key to generating the most attention. Especially the very most densely populated areas, like downtown Los Angeles, the advertising would be very expensive but would be a worthy investment.

Psychographic - Our products are primarily marketed towards people who are working for or in law enforcement and to a lesser extent people in correctional services, these people are most likely to be males in their 20s-40s who are in relatively secure financial standing and likely have high moral character well committed to enforcing the law and helping people. These people likely stay in good physical shape and are well read on the laws in their areas. Also, people who likely have great interest in technology and engineering.

Demographic - Most likely males and females in their 20s to 40s of all different ethnicities and backgrounds who are highly likely to be involved in the military or law enforcement. Otherwise engineering people and technological people and other very intelligent people that are involved in the mechanical aspect of things.

Behavioral - The majority of people interested in our products would be most inclined to be on the front line for law enforcement helping fight back against crime. Our target audience likely consists of individuals with very high levels of character and high energy who are key contributors to the betterment of our society.

PPE Market: Projected Growth

Key Trends

· There is an overall increase in government spending related to TBI.

· San Diego showed a decline in expenditures on police protection.

· Los Angeles has one of the highest increases in law enforcement spending.

· California has the highest concentration of law enforcement officers in the U.S.

Of the 25 largest U.S. cities in 2017, 18 increased their real (inflation-adjusted) per capita expenditures on police protection between 2000 and 2017, with Austin, Texas showing the largest increase (up 77%) and San Diego, Calif. showing the largest decrease (down 27%

Targeting Plan

Our target market will consist of law enforcement agencies within southern California. We initially want our focus to remain in southern California for the onset of our marketing efforts and plan to expand our reach once a proper foundation has been established.

Our efforts will primarily focus on Southern California counties of Orange, San Diego, Las Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino. Each county has their own set of guidelines and requirements to allow for procurement from county buyers, which are outlined below. While registration for procurement is not an indication that a county will contract a business for supplying their products, we feel this initial step will prepare Blast Analytics and Mitigation for selection if a county wishes to proceed with purchasing. Each county will list contracts for their required services and are competitively bid from applicable businesses.

Positioning Statement

Goals: Our goal is to increase brand awareness for Blast Analytics and Mitigation and occupy the first-in-mind position for preventative brain health measures for both law enforcement and military personnel alike. This goal will allow Blast Analytics and Mitigation to establish itself as the leader in preventative measures taken against blast overpressure related traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our goal is to also place BAaM in front of as many law enforcement departments procurement officials as possible that will lead to awarded contracts within their respective departments.

Target Audience : Public sector procurement buyers in law enforcement departments.

Key Message : Blast Analytics and Mitigation is the comprehensive solution to intercepting blast induced TBI and maintaining brain health of law enforcement and military personnel.

Communication Strategy : By placing Blast Analytics and Mitigation in front of prospective buyers using mediums frequented by law enforcement procurement officials, we feel BAaM will receive a greater level of awareness of the products offered by BAaM and will lead to more wide-spread adoption of the service. We will revise existing social media to enhance overall brand image and reinforce the importance of blast overpressure exposure to our prospective audience. We will further raise awareness of blast induced TBI and law enforcement brain health by participating in webinars that directly position BAaM as the solution to blast overpressure related TBI.

Brand Audit

Looking at Blast Analytics and Mitigation’s current social media presence gives us a great idea of where the brand stands in the minds of outside viewers. While BAaM does manage to occupy a presence on the vital social media channels that most align with the BAaM image, we feel that there is great potential to further BAaM’s online presence. Despite our team finding that social media may not be the best use of resources for targeting law enforcement procurement officials, a strong social media presence will establish strong credibility for the brand and allow BAaM to occupy the top-of-mind position as the leader in blast overpressure analytics.

Media Plan

Online

Website

The website should inform visitors of the product offering and highlight what steps are being taken towards updates and improvements. A social tab that allows someone to visit the BAaM social media pages and insert their email to get updates about the product or events can be highly beneficial for visitors to stay connected across all platforms.

Google Ads

Google Ads is a platform where businesses and advertisers can create ads on Google search networks. We will be using Google Ads to create campaigns because it is cost-per-click. The average cost-per-click of Google Ads is between $0.5 and $2. The Google Ads auction is focused around keywords in which the business chooses a list of keywords to target that are relevant to the business or words that people are most likely used when searching for a product. A business would then bid on the keywords depending on how much they are willing to pay for a google user to click on the ad. To maximize the impact of a Google Ads campaign, a business needs to know which keywords work best for the business and where to make improvements–Wordstream’s Google Ads Performance Grader can help with this process. Wordstream Advisor allows a business to manage your Google Ads and Facebook advertising campaigns from one responsive, centralized dashboard, eliminating the need to track various campaigns through different interfaces.

Email Campaign

Email campaigns can be used to follow up with followers/subscribers and should be used after getting a fan base. Email marketing is when a company collects a mailing list and sends coupons, newsletters, and promotional materials to all the emails in the database. To start a successful email campaign you will need a targeted email list with qualified leads. One way to create this list is to convert website visitors into subscribers. Instead of visitors searching for a place to enter their email address, the website will have an exit-intent popup. This popup could include a message about what the visitor will receive if they insert their email in the box below. There is also a website called Optinmonster.com that converts abandoning visitors into subscribers and customers. There are four plans: $9/mo basic plan, $19/mo plus plan, $29/mo pro plan, and $49/mo growth plan. Since our social media presence is lacking, we would recommend holding off until refining other social media platform presence and purchasing a basic $9/mo plan.

Social Media

We will put heavy emphasis on social media channels since our target audience falls into the category of people with the highest percentage of social media use. We plan to incorporate a social media refresh that focuses on consistently posting dynamic videos, images, TBI effected brain scans, and awareness oriented content. We want to include posts that encourage audience engagement and act as an open forum for our audience to share experiences and testimonials with injury related to blast overpressure.

Facebook

Facebook is one of the top social media sites. Here, users add their peers as friends, post public messages, and share photos. Facebook has also created business pages where businesses can sell products directly through the Facebook marketplace. Facebook also allows the option to create paid Facebook posts to reach a larger audience outside your direct followers. Using the recommended one post a day, we plan on directing followers to our website.

Instagram posts/ads

Instagram is a popular social media photo-sharing platform that initially started as a user-generated network of friends simply sharing each other's photos. Over the years, Instagram has since developed many business-oriented features including sponsored Instagram ads, shopping directly through Instagram, and paid influencer promotions. Currently, Blast Analytics and Mitigation has a very weak social media presence on Instagram. Blast Analytics would directly benefit from increased posting. This would help maintain relationships with existing followers, while also helping reach new potential followers. Along with an increase in posting frequency, Instagram’s paid advertising platform will allow Blast Analytics to branch out it’s reach beyond its existing followers to a new targeted audience.

We plan to post twice daily to increase our reach to new potential customers, as well as keeping a strong brand awareness with our current customers. With every view and/or follow on Instagram, Blast Analytics can grow dramatically, and increase its brand awareness.

Twitter

We plan to tweet daily to attract potential customers and raise brand awareness. The recommended tweets per day to maximize engagement with our followers is three to seven. We will use hashtags to prompt tweets to have the highest visibility, along with following trending tags to comment on social issues. The utilization of hashtags will be the main way we get followers. Hashtags are a great way to indicate that our content is relevant to a certain topic and it gets our tweets in front of an already interested audience. With enough action on our tweets, Twitter will deem it as popular and it will become the number one search result for that hashtag. Also, if you associate a picture with the hashtag in your tweet, the image will be shown to everyone searching that hashtag if you get popular enough. However, twitter will not be solely used to sell products, we will focus instead on building an engaged and loyal following of people who find what we do interesting. From there, our followers will be able to find our website in the Twitter bio.

Youtube

Youtube is a popular video-sharing platform that allows users to create and host creative video content. Youtube focuses on longer, more in-depth videos that can demonstrate value to consumers. 73% of U.S. adults are using Youtube to watch online video content, with 51% of those users frequenting the streaming site daily. More than 2 billion people use Youtube worldwide and the website amasses approximately 30 million daily visits.

Despite Youtube’s great ability to reach a worldwide market of users, Blast Analytics has established virtually no presence on Youtube. This should be an imperative aspect of any business trying to establish an online presence, as Youtube has established a practical monopoly over the video sharing market.

Blast Analytics should undoubtedly make a conscientious effort to establish a successful Youtube channel and following. Youtube's algorithm makes it easier for users to find videos of topics that they are interested in and branch out through their “Related Videos” and “Recommended Videos” aspect of their website. This style of video sharing makes it a mutually beneficial relationship for both the video watcher and the video creator, as they receive entertainment and prominence respectively. It is also very common that Youtube users who are interested in similar topics collaborate on projects together. Self promoting and promoting the people you collaborate with helps make everyone gain more subscribers and establish working relationships.

In addition to consistently uploading videos to remain relevant, Blast Analytics should be as interactive with their subscribers as possible. This means answering questions and responding to comments on the videos. It is important to establish a community while maintaining interest and relevance by being proactive as possible.

Besides the video sharing and streaming services that Youtube can offer in terms of garnering attention, their massive monopolistic success has also made their advertising services both coveted and effective. They offer 4 different advertising methods: Skippable in-stream ads, Non-skippable in-stream ads, Video discovery ads, and Non-video ads (overlays and banners).

For Youtube, the upfront cost to create content will include all the necessary equipment required to shoot and edit each video, with the cost of posting being free. The initial cost of lighting ($200), Camera ($1,000), and editing software ($300) will all be taken into account when planning for our digital video communications.

Hootsuite & Alternatives

Hootsuite is a scheduling and management system for all social media accounts. This can be used to help keep track of all current and future posts. Using a social management system such as Hootsuite can be useful to coordinate and pre-schedule posting, while acting as a central hub to engage with followers across all platforms. Plans range from 50$ to 120$ a month depending on need and free trials are available to allow for a quick overview of how to manage all social media accounts.

Using Hootsuite allows for many options such as post analytics, content curation, monitor, and promotion. Although this can be beneficial it is worth noting the price of this service is a monthly fee. While the alternative is to manage these accounts based on a custom created schedule that applies to the business directly.

An alternative to Hootsuite is creating a scheduled plan for the business for when, how, and what to post. This can be a valuable alternative as it won't cost a monthly fee and can be subjected to change based on the growth of the company.

Ways of Promoting Awareness on Social Media

Once the target audience is selected it's important to select the appropriate media content for that audience. Options you can use when promoting awareness through social media are videos, images, blogs, and links.

Videos

When looking to promote awareness nothing is better than showing the effects and damages through a video presentation. Videos on social media are among the most popular ways to show off the product, service, or a way to direct attention to a particular subject. It's important to allow the audience to visually see the subject you are trying to promote awareness too. If selling a product through video, you want to make the content visually appealing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4VJaNVHa88

This video demonstrates some of the pressure that police officers go through when training and how close in proximity officers get to explosions/blast pressure.

Images

Using images on social media is a way to get the attention of an audience. When scrolling through media pages images will pop out and grab your attention. Choosing the right content to display is key to promoting awareness. Showing the issue and or writing a quote on an image will give the viewer a quick sense of urgency depending on the topic promoted.

Blogs

Blogs are a conversation-style website formerly known as weblog. They can be used to gain traffic to websites or social media accounts by promoting upcoming events, discussing issues, and the solutions offered by businesses. A blog also helps organizations gather direct feedback from customers and clients. Sharing information such as thoughts on particular subjects will allow for the reader to engage with and create a personal connection with the organization.

Links

Sharing links to videos that are identical to the message you are trying to promote will give the audience more content to view. Posting links to videos, articles, resources, and images will help grow the company's position on a subject.

Media Plan Schedule / Templates

Schedule

From data these selected times are considered the best posting times based on the amount of traffic on social media sites.
