The five skills I’ve obtained through my general education courses that would help make me successful at a new job are:

· Critical thinking

· Computer skills

· Communication skills

· Ethical reasoning

· Cultural awareness

First and foremost, the skills highlighted above have made learning easier. Critical thinking and ethical reasoning skills have allowed for me to identify problems, gather information, and develop moral and ethical solutions to those problems. Secondly, communication, and cultural skills have taught me to effectively communicate across diverse cultural lines while gaining an understanding on where those receiving my communications are coming from. I’ve truly become more humble and empathetic to those surrounding me. Finally, the computer skills have enabled me to more effectively use a computer, while gaining an advanced knowledge on the use of basic computer programs, as well as utilizing different software programs.I’m hoping my degree will allow me the ability to accomplish many different things within my community.

Most importantly, I’m hoping that having a degree will actually increase my earning power. It’s something that you always hear growing up, I suppose now I’ll actually be able to test that theory. Having a higher earning power will mean that I’ll be able to put more money back into the local economy because I’ll have the freedom to start purchasing the niceties that people like to have, instead of only scraping by in getting the necessities that I need to have.
