Closing the Gap between College and Career

Over recent years, there has been a huge number of graduates and intakes in various colleges and higher learning institutions. This would naturally mean that there is an increase in the number of qualified individuals who are ready to be integrated into the labor workforce at any time. There should be much intake of those who are considered for job opportunities in various work sectors. This is not the case, however, as there is a gap between college graduates and prepared for the workforce as the number of individuals being directly sought for employment is little and does not reflect the huge number of those graduating. This discussion, as such, is intended to focus on this aspect of closing the gap and what needs to be done in order to ensure this gap is reduced and there are more graduates who are prepared for the workplace environment.

Some various solutions and procedures have been considered in order to bridge this gap successfully. These solutions have been offered in various measures to deduce the reasons and how the gap can be best tackled and reduced. There have also been doubts and skeptic opinions regarding the practicability of these institutions due to how they leave their graduates ill-equipped for the workplace. This will also be discussed and regarded in the thesis as it provides an insight into what college qualification entails and what employers seek.

On top of that, the discussion also focuses on how it is also crucial to make practical academic choices. Despite the ever-changing demand and supply of the workforce, there are certain niches in labor provision that remain constant. Through understanding the manner of these niches, colleges, students, and employers are able to determine the criteria better, they require to accept the application of qualified personnel.

Gilligan K., (2016), Four Trends Destined to Close the Gap between College and Finding a Job

This article highlights how higher education institutions are under skepticism due to the lack of job applications. This reduces the interest that individuals have in application to colleges due to their limited job possibilities. This is because employers are more interested in experience and skill work than the educational qualification. This is also due to how employers have changed their perspective and strategy of seeking employees. Furthermore, the policy being used does not mean much to how qualification and employment are being done

Fanetti S., Bushrow K., and DeWeese D., (2010), Closing the Gap between High School Writing Instruction and College Writing Expectations

This article discusses how there is a gap between how employers seek their employees and the structure of college and high school. As such, this can be done by rethinking the purpose of high school.
