Assessment and Intervention/Enrichment Case Study Analysis

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to analyze a case study on a family with a typically or atypically developing child to assist you in learning best practices in the assessment process, how to interpret test data/results, write assessment reports, select appropriate curricula, and recommend and plan developmentally appropriate intervention or enrichment plans and learning activities for young children and their families. The groups for this assignment will be created by the professor after the add/drop course date.

Directions: In a group of 5 students complete the following assignment:

1. Read the case study provided (Matt’s Case Study) and discuss it with your group members.

2. Summarize General and Demographic Information about the family and the child (e.g., child’s age, date of birth, current placement, diagnosed disability, family composition, etc.).

3. Identify and summarize Developmental and Background Information and Referral Information (if applicable) (social, academic, developmental, medical, and family histories, types of services currently provided);

4. Identify the Needs, Priorities, and Concerns of the family and the child. 5. Identify Family's Sources of Support (formal and informal) and Resources (emotional,

social, financial, educational) available to the family and the child. 6. Summarize, discuss and explain Assessment Information (both formal and informal)

about the family and the child (e.g., home observations, teacher ratings, parent input and feedback, anecdotal notes, scores, child's strengths, limitations, emerging developmental skills, etc.).

7. Suggest additional alternative types of informal and formal assessments that could have been used to further assess Matt.

8. Identify Best Practices and Family-Centered Practices professionals used when working with the child and the family during the assessment and intervention process.

9. Propose a possible Intervention/Program Plan for the family and the child based on developmentally appropriate practices and recommended practices. Focus on interventions and writing outcome statements that can occur in both the home and school settings (e.g., classroom instructional activities, home activities, curriculum, appropriate learning environment for the child, etc.). Make sure to take into account all developmental domains of the child.

10. Revise and Edit your work before final submission to the professor. 11. Save your assignment in a PDF file and upload it to the Discussion Board. 12. Read at least one more report, and using the Dialogue ToolKit Discussion Rubric, reply

to at least another post.
