For this assignment, you will be creating a hospital profile in the form of ONE cohesive, concise table only for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation hospital system that includes the following three sections of information:
I. General Information; II. Statistical Information; III. Financial Highlights
· Before beginning, review the following important articles on how to read and report numbers "in thousands". This is a very important concept to understand before you begin this assignment. This is because some of the financial numbers you will be gathering are reported "in thousands" and some are not! You will need to understand this concept to convert the ones that are not reported in the thousands so you can put all of the financial numbers together in one section of the table. If you have questions after reviewing these resources, please contact me:
· How to Read Financial Statements in the Thousands (Links to an external site.)
· You will use the following 2 reports to locate the needed information: 1) CCF Facts and Figures (Links to an external site.) (review entire webpage and both linked documents), 2) CCF 2018-2019 Financial Statements (Links to an external site.)
· Important notes:
· This is not an essay! Your report must be in the format of a ONE well-designed cohesive table with appropriate headers for each of the three sections. Note - in a well-designed table all rows and columns relate to each other. The use of color might help distinguish data categories as well. If you need assistance with how to create a table in Word, here is an article that might be helpful: How to create and customize tables in Microsoft Word.
· Make sure the statistical and financial numbers you are reporting are for the hospital system, not just the main campus.
· Your table must include a reference list of sources in APA format for all information provided. able must include a reference list of sources in APA format for all information provided. (Links to an external site.)

2.
1.
1. I. General Information: For this section of the table you will include 1) the name of hospital (i.e., The Cleveland Clinic Foundation) , 2) the year established, 3) type (nonprofit, government, etc.), and 4) name of CURRENT CEO. Then, use the CCF Facts and Figures website to record, 5) number of physicians and scientists, 6) number of advanced practice providers and registered nurses. Make sure to note your sources of information at the beginning of this section of the table.
1. II. Statistical Information: This data will come from the CCF Facts and Figures website not from the Ernst & Young CCF Financial Statements: 1) number of hospitals, 2) number of beds, 3) outpatient visits, 4) admissions and observations, 5) surgeries and procedures, 6) emergency department visits, 7) number of residents in training. Make sure to note your source of information at the beginning of this section of the table.
1. III. Financial Highlights: This data must come from the Ernst & Young CCF Financial Statements not from the CCF Facts and Figures website. Please make sure to use only the most recent year and report:
3.
1. total operating revenue (consolidated)
1. total operating expense (consolidated)
1. total operating income (consolidated)
1. total liabilities and net assets (consolidated)
1. charity care
1. total grant revenue
1. payor mix by source (i.e. payor mix should be reported only in percent format for - Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care & Commercial, Self Pay - should equal 100%).
1. You will not be doing any calculations for this assignment. However, when you read the operations statement on the Ernst and Young report it is helpful to know that totaloperating revenue minus total operating expense equals operating income before interest and depreciation. The total operating revenue and total operating expenses are not titled this exact way on the report - you will have to find them!
4. Include units (e.g. "in the thousands") so numbers reported are accurately . Inaccurately reported data serves no purpose. Also, make sure to note your source of information at the beginning of each section of the table.
4. Hint: Charity care and total grant revenue are reported in the Ernst and Young report in paragraph text rather than in a table, so they are not abbreviated "in the thousands".
