Leading Edge Fashions

Gathered Information.

This slide displays the timeline of the effects of Sir Francis death.

The first thing that we need to focus is analyze what gap did Sir Francis left.

Even though the committee is formed with experienced personnel, it seems that there is a communication issue with its members..

During the first year, they couldn’t decide for a theme. This first step is paramount for the company because it’s the foundation of everyone’s projects.

The second year, even they did agree for a theme, it seems that the committee did not put enough emphasis on the meeting due to its length. At this point, its very noticeable that they where trying to avoid conflict between each other but conflict sometimes generates new ideas between each member

Delegated artistic control to a committee of experienced designers chosen from within the company.

The first year, the committee could not decide on a theme for Spring. As a result, that season’s collection was a confused mess that one critic referred to as “the remnants of a Hollywood garage sale.”

The second year, the committee tried to avoid making the same mistake and settled on a theme after meeting for only one hour. The “Game of Thrones” collection was another disaster, with such inappropriate items as a bronze helmet and a bearskin cape.

Fears that disbanding the committee would be seen by its members as a vote of no confidence and would lead to mass resignations.

Problem Identification

Nonexistent leadership

Ideas not comprised into a common goal

No mission analysis

No goal specifications

No timelines in place

No systems in place

Frictional Team

Based on the provided material, I can say that some of the issues are very evident.

Sir Francis was a role model that was trusted and acted as a supervisor for the people who were working on such projects. His death led to an unorganized team that had no supervision or deadlines.

Even though everyone's ideas are great, the team did not had a common objective. All ideas were individualized and no common goal was established.

Mission analysis refers back to who is the project for? The committee needs to identify their main audience and establish a goal that can meet their needs.

Timelines have to be set. This is of great importance because with timelines, the committee member will know their time frame to present their portion of the project.

There were no systems in place. Resources need to be presented to the team members so that they are aware of the help that’s out there. In addition, establishing continuous meetings would be good to remind members of timelines, resources and also provide help to those who need them.

Overall, even though the committee members are experienced, they all form a frictional team that requires leadership and established procedures and guidelines.

Team Building Process

Committee builds a team based on three basic processes.

Transition Process

Action Process

Interpersonal Process

All teams have three different processes that they need to go through in order to form a successful team.

4

Transition Processes

* Forming a team*

Mission Analysis – The committee establishes an objective and ensures all members understand the concept.

Goal Specification – The committee identifies tasks related to the overall goal and members prioritize based on the importance of the same.

Strategy Formulation – A plan of action is developed in order to met the common objective.

5

Action Process

* The team is now performing *

Monitor milestones and goals – members track progress towards completion of tasks.

Monitor Systems – Track the use of resources.

Coordination – Organizing and managing the flow of team activities and tasks.

Team monitoring and support – Assist individuals with their tasks by providing feedback and coaching.

Interpersonal Processes

* Activities that occur during previous two processes *

Conflict Management – Establish conditions to avoid disagreements & resolving conflict when it occurs.

Motivation and Confidence Building – generate the willingness for individuals to work as a team.

Affect Management - Ensure team members regulate their emotions, have empathy not sympathy.

Make a Decision.

Choose a leader that acts as a representative for the whole committee.

Leader should act as a supervisor that ensures deadlines are being met.
