PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

Introduction

Highland is a medical organization that provides services to the majority of unemployed population and low-income people of Oakland. It is a state sponsored organization and provide a level 1-trauma services. As most of the public medical centers, it has a tendency of keeping their patients waiting in queues; their patients are not provided with better education and instructions. Over the previous years, it has been involved in waste and abuse of their budgets. According to the recent report, their staff have been underperforming due to lack of skills in patient care. This health facility needs to be improved since most of the residents depend majorly on their services, since it is a state facility and most of their services are cheap, for this section of society.

Performance improvement plan

To begin with, it is important to note that any government-sponsored facility has the responsibility to provide the best services to any citizen. The society mentioned above is not an exception. I would like to provide an outline of performance improvement plan for the hospital.

1. Invest in a centralized Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. A lot of paperwork in the hospital has led to long queues since most of the information has to be handwritten. Due to this, most of the time, a lot of repetition of information may be repeated severally. This method will facilitate automated access of the information, which will allow the treatment workflow. This method will also allow the hospital to trace its usage of financial. However, it will not help in improving the skills of the staff (Santilli & Vogenberg, 2016).

2. Provision of well-planned roles that are accompanied with good support. Medical personnel can always handle with the heavy job load and provide care to their patients if they are:

i. Given the required support from their seniors. Many staff do survive well with heavy job burdens if they get support from their seniors.

ii. Provided with skills on how to work in teams.

iii. Provided with a high level of control about on how to undertake their work.

iv. Provided enough time to deal with their own feelings.

3. Choosing effective materials to provide the required education and instructions to the patient. This is done by the use of:

i. One-on-one teaching

ii. Demonstrations

iii. Trained peer educators

iv. Other printed materials like the brochures

Conclusion

Highland Medical Center will have to implement the above strategies in order to improve the provision of their services. The low-income society as I mentioned above, require better medical attention even though they mostly rely on free services from the government. The managers and senior medical personnel have the responsibility to follow up every service given to the patient in order to ensure they acquire the best service. On the other side, they have a responsibility of providing the medical personnel with the required and conducive environment for them to work effectively. Introduction of the electronic health record will ease the work for the hospital too.
