Eating and Weight

The purpose of this assignment is to get students thinking about how to get kids and adults to eat healthier. Jamie Oliver, a popular English chef, gave a TED talk entitled “Teach every child about food”:  http://www.ted.com/talks/jamie_oliver.html (Links to an external site.)  . Dr. Brian Wansink ( http://www.mindlesseating.org (Links to an external site.) ) also studies eating in lunchrooms and how to get kids to eat healthier. His site at  http://smarterlunchrooms.org (Links to an external site.)  describes some of these tips. His website has many videos and tips on how to get kids to eat healthier. For this activity, I want you to review and discuss Jamie Oliver’s and Dr. Wansink’s suggestions on how to get kids to eat healthier. Be sure to answer the following questions:

· Is it the responsibility of schools to encourage kids to eat healthier? Why or why not?

· What are some other tips or practices that may encourage healthy eating in school-age children and teens?

· Do you believe the same tips would be effective in the USFSP school cafeteria and restaurants on campus? Why or why not?

Your submission should be 2-3 pages total in length (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, one-inch margins).
