M08: Theory Application Paper

Assignment Overview:

For this assignment, you will write an 8-to-10-page paper that applies two behavioral theories or concepts to the health or risk behavior you introduced in your Topic Proposal paper. The goal is to analyze how these theories have been used to explain or intervene upon the behavior and assess their effectiveness based on existing research.

Objectives:

· To apply two behavioral theories or concepts to a specific health or risk behavior.

· To evaluate the effectiveness of these theories in understanding or modifying the behavior.

· To integrate and critique relevant research on the application of these theories.

Instructions:

1. Introduction:

· Briefly reintroduce the health or risk behavior you discussed in your Topic Proposal paper.

· Summarize the importance of understanding this behavior and the goals of your analysis.

2. Theory Application:

· Theory 1:

· Describe the first theory or concept you will use.

· Explain how this theory has been applied to the behavior in existing research.

· Discuss the strengths and limitations of this theory in the context of the behavior.

· Theory 2:

· Describe the second theory or concept you will use.

· Explain how this theory has been applied to the behavior in existing research.

· Discuss the strengths and limitations of this theory in the context of the behavior.

3. Integration and Comparison:

· Compare and contrast the two theories in terms of their application to the behavior.

· Discuss how each theory contributes to understanding or modifying the behavior.

· Evaluate the overall effectiveness of each theory based on research findings.

4. Assessment of Fit:

· Assess how well each theory fits the behavior based on the evidence you have reviewed.

· Consider whether one theory provides a more comprehensive understanding or intervention strategy than the other.

5. Conclusion:

· Summarize your findings and insights about the application of the theories.

· Reflect on the implications for future research or practical interventions related to the behavior.

Format and Submission:

· Your paper should be 8-10 pages in length, double-spaced, using a standard 12-point font and 1-inch margins.

· Include an APA title page.

· Use APA formatting for citations and references.

· Submit your paper as a PDF or Word document.

Evaluation Criteria:

· Theory Application: Clear and accurate application of two behavioral theories to the chosen health or risk behavior.

· Research Integration: Effective use of research to support the analysis of theory application and assessment.

· Comparison and Assessment: Insightful comparison of the theories and thorough assessment of their fit with the behavior.

· Writing Quality: The paper is well-organized, demonstrates critical thinking, and is free of grammatical errors.

Resources:

Review class notes, textbooks, and scholarly articles related to the theories discussed in class. If you need additional assistance, consider consulting academic resources or discussing your ideas with your instructor.

Note: For this assignment, please refrain from choosing the Social Ecological Framework as one of your theories.
