Lucidchart Tutorial

Creating an Account

1. To create an account, navigate to the Lucidchart homepage and click the Sign up free button in the top-right corner of the window.

2. This will open a screen with various plan options. By default, you will be brought to the “Personal Plans” page. There are two options: “Free” and “Pro.” Under the “Free” account option, click the Sign Up button.

3. A dialog box will pop up prompting you to “Sign up for Lucidchart Free.” You will be prompted to enter your name, work email, and password.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to use your SNHU email. Since your SNHU email is associated with an educational institution, this will give you the ability to keep a few more documents on your free account.

4. This will bring you to the dashboard, where you will see a “Welcome to Lucidchart” dialog box. Hover over the “Education” icon, then select Student.

5. On the next screen, select Home or Personal.

6. This will take you to your dashboard. From the dashboard, you can create and view different documents.

7. For the final step, you must notify Lucidchart that you are a student. This gets you access to more free documents. To do this, click on your email address in the menu bar at the top of the Lucidchart window. Then select Account Settings from the drop-down menu.

8. This will open up a new browser tab titled “User.” By default, you will be on the “User Settings” tab. On the menu pane, underneath the “Storage” capacity bar, is a button titled Education Upgrade. Click this button.

9. You will be directed to a screen prompting you to “certify that you are currently a student or teacher at an accredited educational institution.” Since you are a student in this class, this applies to you. Click the Send Confirmation Email button.

10. You should receive a confirmation email with a link. Click on the link. This will take you back to Lucidchart and a screen confirming your educational account. Congratulations, you are all set up!

Saving and Downloading Your Work

1. To save your work, click File, then Save.

2. To download your work, click File, then Download As. It is recommended that you download your diagram as a PDF, PNG with transparent background, or JPEG.

NOTE: If you are going to be copying your diagrams into another document, a PNG or JPEG file will be easiest to use. If you do choose a PDF, be sure to check the “Accessible PDF” box before downloading.

Deleting Lucidchart Documents

The Education version of Lucidchart has a 10-document limit, with a maximum of 60 objects (shapes, arrows, and so on) per document. As you go through the program, you may need to delete documents from your work in previous classes in order to create new ones.

1. Be sure to download a copy of any document before you delete it.

Tip: Email a copy of the diagram to yourself or save it in some type of cloud-based storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, and so on) so that you always have access to it.

2. From the Lucidchart dashboard, you should see tiles showing your documents. If you would like to switch to a list view of documents, click the List view icon. If you do this or are using the list view already, skip to Step 5.

3. If you are using the tile view, hover over the document you would like to remove. Then click the More icon.

4. Clicking on More will show a menu of options. From this menu, click Delete. This will remove the document for you. You have now successfully deleted your document!

5. If you are working from the list view, hover over the document you would like to delete. Click the Settings icon next to the document title.

6. From the menu of options, click Delete. This will remove the document for you. You have now successfully deleted your document!
