GEOG 101 – Introduction to World Geography
November , 2017
My country is Russia and it is located between Europe and Asia otherwise known as Eurasia. Russia or the Russian Federation as it is known is a country with well-developed road networks. It is a large country with some well-elaborated coastlines and beaches (Peter, 2011). Some of the cities in the country include Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod and Novosibirsk, these are just some of the cities but there are others. This is one of the largest countries in the world with almost 17 million Square kilometers. One of the things that Russia is known for as far as its Geographic location is concerned is its relation with the world coldest desert called Siberia. Russia experiences very cold long winters while the summers are usually short. There are around 100 ethnic communities in Russia thus making it mult ethnic, however most of the population is comprised of Eastern Slavic. Most of the religions of the world are practiced here; therefore we can say that the country has no particular religion. Politically, Russia is always seeking to establish relationships with its neighbors. Culturally, the major cities in Russia are composed of different cultures, as it is a norm for modern cities like Moscow (Daniel 2009). According to google maps, the Russian Federation is bordered by the following country: Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Norway, Poland and Ukraine. The map also shows expressways, expansive roads and streets. The Soviet Union was armed with nuclear weapons and an economic model that challenged the control of capitalism. The resulting tensions between the global power of the Soviet Union and its socialist economic model and the United States with its capitalist economic model resulted in the Cold War. The difference in the ideological program of the United States of America and the Soviet Union - capitalism and socialism - led to the fact that after the defeat of fascist Germany, the world followed the followers of both powers. The territory of the United States, unlike the Union republics, did not suffer from the fascists. After the war, the States became a creditor of Western European countries. Under the economic assistance program "Marshal's Plan", which signed in 1948 by 16 states, the US transferred to Europe $17 billion.
