The first Project Executive Summary Report – the assignment for Module 1 on Cultural Competence, was applied in my practice - Self-Assessment tool was utilized to assess cultural competence of the healthcare providers, to assess efficient communication between patient and provider, and to promote positive health outcomes. NYCHHC/Queens Hospital has a diverse patient and provider population and there is a clear need for culturally competent health care providers.
Another application to practice was related to assignment in Module 4- Review of Organizational Policy. I choose to review Fall Prevention Policy at Queens Hospital. I noted that current Fall Prevention Policy addresses only inpatient Departments. I have prepared Fall Prevention Policy for Primary Care Clinic and the Outpatient Departments and shared with our Staff Development and Director of the Ambulatory Care at NYCHHC/Queens Hospital.
In Module 5, I have researched a tool on how to start addressing obesity during the office visits in Primary Care clinic. This tool can be very helpful in Primary Care and will help achieve objectives from Healthy People 2030- Reduce overweight and obesity by helping people eat healthy and get physical activity.
I enjoyed writing a letter to a government official to address electricity leak in my community. I felt that I really can make a difference as a DNP leader by influencing policy making, and providing save environment for my community.
Throughout this course I collaborated with the different disciplines, administration, IT department, Staff Development, and Patient Affairs Department. I researched, studied, and developed knew knowledge which was disseminated to Nursing Leadership at Queens Hospital.
The course was very interesting and I enjoyed learning, especially through our Discussion Boards discussions!
