Letter of Intent
I request to be selected into the AMEDD Enlisted Commissioning Program. Becoming a nurse has been a goal of mine since before I joined the Army. I believe that I am a great candidate for the AECP because I am a caring person, a strong leader, and a hard worker.
Ever since I was a child, I loved to help people. Though I did not know I wanted to become a nurse until I started college, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field and help people. As a pharmacy specialist I have many duties but one thing I really enjoy about my job is to counsel patients. This is the time where I can apply my knowledge and provide service to patients. Because of my nature to help people I desire to learn more and help people further. I understand that becoming an Army nurse requires more than getting a degree, it is about implementing the knowledge to the patient care. I have continuously proven myself in my job as a pharmacy specialist by applying my knowledge in real life situations. Now I would like to broaden my scope and help patients further.
I am a stronger leader. Since I joined the military, I was always put in a leadership position. In basic training I was a squad leader responsible for 11 other soldiers’ health and welfare. My first duty assignment in Korea, NCOIC of the main pharmacy entrusted me to take over as the NCOIC of the Yongsan Health Clinic; responsible for entire operations of the pharmacy. When I arrived at my current duty station in Fort Huachuca I was put in charge of the main pharmacy because of the absent of leadership. During BLC I have demonstrated my leadership and was selected as the distinguished leader of the cycle. I understand as an Army nurse leadership is a must have quality. With my experience in management I’ll be a great addition to the Army Nursing Corps.
I am a hard worker. Because I believe hard work always pays off, I give hundred percent on everything I do. Especially if it’s something I enjoy doing such as helping people. I have not only demonstrated my capabilities in the pharmacy but everything I was tasked out for to include Color Guard, Honor Guard, volunteer for communities, etc. The reason why I continue to excel is not because I am better than anyone but because I try harder. This will allow be to endure and learn under pressure in a fast-paced program such a nursing.
I know that my knowledge in medication, understanding of both clinical and operational parts of the pharmacy will allow me to be a great candidate for the AECP. United States Army Nurse Corps have provided excellence throughout the world since 1901. I would be honored to be given a chance to join the best nursing team in the world.
