Slide 5: Let’s look at this in terms of a logic model for Public-Private-Academic partnerships on the local level:

What are our long term goals in operationalizing social determinants of health?

Increasing access to mental and healthcare, good nutrition, healthy living environment, etc

What are our mid-range goals?

Collaborating on resources to meet our long term goals and address needs of the vulnerable in the community.

What would be our short term goals?

Building partnerships/coalitions to collaborate resources

Assessing needs

What are our activities?

Needs assessment of the community as well as each partnership organization

Establishing a working coalition or partnership with public-private and academic entities

Development of interventions sourced by the partnership/coalition

Inputs:

Public/non-profit entities and government: Government grants, operational structure, research (CDC-EPA, state venture capitalists (Small business capital)

Private sectors: Innovation, funding, efficient supply chain and logistics, funding/cost sharing

Academia: Personnel via internships and student volunteers, applied research partnerships to inform intervention,

In terms of Academic activites: in addition to internships, some of the classroom activites i have seen and used are: Epi and statistics class service learning projects, Vulnerable populations in disasters service learning projects. One we are currently involved with is a risk communications projects with public health students
