Graphs

Figure 1

Text describing the general trend you see over the four weeks. For example, did your

physical activity go up, down or stay relatively the same over the four weeks? Explain possible

reasons for the results (i.e., what was happening in your life during that time-period that might be

the cause of your results?). Note that the above graph is only an example, your graph will have

28 days.

Figure 2

Text describing the general trend you see over the four weeks for figure 2. Repeat this

format for as many graphs as you have for each of your three variables. Recall that some

variables require two graphs while other variables only require one graph. Meaning, some

students will have more graphs than others.

For variables where you created your own scale, be sure to explain your scale in the

paragraph below the figure.

Relationship Between Variables

Review of Literature

Text reviewing previous literature identifying a relationship between the two variables

you chose, and therefore lend support your hypothesis which will follow. For example:

“Previous research has demonstrated a relationship between greater physical activity

participation and an increase in feelings of well-being and decreased stress levels (Smith et al.,

2001, pg 5)”. After you’ve reviewed literature, clearly state a specific hypothesis based on

previous research. For example: “It is hypothesized that there will be a negative relationship

between physical activity duration and improved stress levels.”

Note that this is only an example, you should not rely on quotations to write your paper.

Demonstrate that you understand the material well enough and are a strong enough writer to put

the information in your own words. This section should be approximately one page in length

and well researched/referenced.

Results

Figure 6

Interpret the results of your data (i.e., graph). Does there appear to be a relationship

between the variables? If so, what is the nature and strength of the relationship? The results

section is where you analyze your findings, but you do not explain them (explanations are

discussed in the discussion section).

The text under this section should be approximately one paragraph to a half-page in

length.

LOG BOOK RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT 5

Discussion

Text providing researched rational as to possible reasons for your results. In other words,

using research, explain why the variables might be related. For example: “Research has

demonstrated physiological changes such as an increase in serotonin levels after participation in

physical activity. Increased serotonin levels are associated with feelings of well-being and

happiness thereby reducing feelings of stress (Smith et al., 2001, pg 10)”.

If your results found no relationship, or a weaker than expected relationship, explain

possible reasons for the discrepancy. You may come up with some of your own ideas for the

discrepancy, based on logic and reason, but you should try to support your ideas with research if

possible.

Note that this is only an example, you should not rely on quotations to write your paper.

Demonstrate that you understand the material well enough and are a strong enough writer to put

the information in your own words. This section should be approximately one page in length

and well researched/referenced.

Goal Reflection

Text stating whether you chose to write your goal at the start of your data collection or

after your data collection. State what your SMART goal was/is:

Goal: ……….

Depending on whether you wrote your goal before or after your data collection, reflect

upon factors that were/might be possible facilitating and hindering factors. Describe possible

(and realistic) solutions to overcome any barriers you encountered/might encounter.

This section should be written in paragraph format (separate paragraphs for facilitating

factors, hindering factors, and solutions to overcome barriers) and approximately one page in

length.

LOG BOOK RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT 6

Summary

Summarize your thoughts regarding this activity. Did you learn anything? Did this

activity impact other, perhaps unexpected areas of your life? Do not feel badly if you feel this

activity did not impact your life. If it didn’t impact your life, why do you think that is?

This section should be one paragraph in length.

This section should start on a new page. Above are a examples of correct referencing

format for a peer reviewed journal article. All of your references should be peer reviewed

journal articles. Certain official organization or educational websites may also be accepted.

Please have these approved by your instructor.

Your paper should contain a minimum of two references, more would be better, but a

greater number of references does not automatically warrant a higher grade. You need enough

references to understand your topic and support/explain your findings.
