2000 words internship report
Log 1: Starting with the Media Department
Upon my first activities in the Embassy, I was involved in the Media department at the embassy. I started in Media department, and I worked with two girls, and they let me read the archive of the Media department in the Saudi Embassy. We introduced each other among the team to create a more friendly space even in the workplace to foster better engagement I the entire process and during internship. I met with the head of the department, media reporters, the embassy representative, the ambassadors among other media workers who work to ensure timely information is issued. The media section of the embassy was objected to organize a broad range of activities such as informational programs, taking part in the coordination of press event for the Saudi Arabia embassy that involve embassy workers and other officials. As I read the archive of the Media department, it is evident that it is interesting to learn more about the aspects of embassy roles. Hence,
I also took part in addressing existing legal emergencies stated under the Saudi Arabian medical and legal emergencies. I read more on legal issuing of new passports among other documents present in the Saudis abroad. As my first day, I learnt about other services of the Saudi Arabian Embassy which involves the offering of immigration services to other countries and nationals. I took part in verification of existing information in the media such as registration of deaths, births and marriages of that of Saudi Citizens living overseas.
Log 2: List of companies
During my internship process I took part also among many of my days to list the biggest companies present in Austria. I took the research with two of other interns to come up with a current list that would help improve the embassy media information concerning the economy and its growth. This promotes Austrian company’s investments as well as informs about knowledge concerning the same for investors to take part in business. This would majorly assist Saudi Arabian citizens in making better informed decisions. I and my team made use of2019 Forbes list to determine what were the best companies in Austria. I also worked with the media department officers to put through the list of companies. Among them are such as the Erste group which was estimated at a revenue of $11.5 billion and its headquarters at Vienna. The profit for the company is at $2 billion. The OMV Group, Vienna insurance group, Verbund, Raiffeisen Bank International are among other groups of companies that have the most improved revenues and profit margins. However, I realized that the most leading companies in Austria are more involved in services and retail trade. This has influenced my understanding on what kind of companies to list down for the Saudi Arabia embassy. The process was however smooth with the help of team of researchers from the embassy who made the process simpler while stating how the report is to be jotted down. I successfully gave the list to the head of the department in time, this was made successful with the help of the internet and other media sources collected from the embassy archives.
Log 3: Promotion of visits to Saudi Arabia
I realized that as much as the embassy works to ensure it serves Saudi Arabians needs and expectations. I realized visits to the Saudi Arabian country needed to e boosted as well. This involves a series of content creation to help the embassy towards promoting better visits to the country. I took part in writing of 100 tweets that took me a week to compose them in terms of content to pass and how the embassy can emulate the methods to achieve best results. However, I found the process smooth despite some few challenges n the tone and type of language to use to create more understanding and reduce controversies associated with twitter. It took me time to put down strategies in favour of the Saudi Arabian embassy on terms to use to promote its country’s visit and tourism. It is evident that Saudi Arabia has lifted some of its restrictions to do with covid-19 entry requirements and hence no more longer times of quarantine is given to new visitors.
I listed several ways on that the embassy social media personnel can post on their site for a period of time to promote its country. This however means consistency and understanding the type of information that people want to hear about the country most. This meant that the quality of the content must be top-notch and must involve the current trend with use of relevant hashtags to get more retweets. I received much help from other interns in researching how best to help the embassy. We took turns, held discussions weekly to compile the information.
Log 4: Writing statement of Ambassador’s speech
I wrote a statement about the Ambassador’s speech to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Being the most international Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA serves the entire world by use of intergovernmental forums for both technical and scientific cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy among countries. I focused on peaceful use of nuclear energy. This came after I read an article and got informed of Saudi Arabia’s plans to establish a civil nuclear type of industry projected to establish its capacity as of 2032. Hence, I wrote the statement that the Embassy can use to expectations and future plans. The process was precise and short with the use of formal language. Since the message is expected to serve, a nationwide population, then, it must be directed in English. I formulated the message within a few days of the week. The process was also successful despite some challenges rasping major key issues not to draft a large paper instead of a short one. A speech is meant to address a specific group of people handling key issues that faces the use of nuclear atoms. I customed the message well and gave it to my assistant in the embassy to correct where possible.
Log 5: Moving of the Permanent Delegation.
I moved to Permanent Delegation to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna office, and I work with 5 people that they responsible about different organizations in Vienna, and they let me read the archive. This was after working at the media department at the Vienna Saudi embassy and learnt about several skills that would help me perform better if given the chance. Earlier, I had no idea how much communication skills, patience, respect and privacy were key. I have learnt the skills in a classroom setup but never did I know it has great impacts in a working place. Allocation to the United Nations and International organizations is dependent on improved skills and better understanding f roles within the Saudi Arabian embassy. I worked with other five people in the new Vienna office to serve different organizations on behalf of the embassy. This meant working with outer space affairs, United Nations office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation. I learnt that numerous agencies work together towards achieving a joint presence. We worked in groups to maintain activities and achieve set goals. I enjoyed the period at the Vienna United Nations and International organization. I faced few challenges due to poor teamwork among the group of five people I worked it. This was in relation to the rate at which meetings were held as well as conducting research. However, I faced no other challenges in my stay at the United Nations organization.
Log 6: Report on UNCITRAL
I took part in the writing of a profile report about United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). The process took place for a period of one week as I assemble information about UNCITRAL. However, its major role is to develop frameworks towards putting forward the mandate to improve on progressive harmony and modernization of the law in terms of international trade. The Law hence facilitates investment and international trade. This includes annual sessions that are held in the headquarter especially at New York City and Vienna. I met many officials of the UNCITRAL team. I had a chance to work with a few of them at my stay in the office. I interacted with others among two other interns who worked in different departments. This led to my formulation of the UNCITRAL report. The report was required at the headquarters within a period of two weeks after allocation of resources to work towards the same goal. I faced no challenge apart from the intense work load both at the office helping with documentations and working in the project. Most of the time, I worked on the project as a personal responsibility during my free time to address the core responsibilities of the UNCITRAL and its expectations towards supporting their core key roles. I enjoyed my stay at the office at Vienna during this process due to frequent subsidies and token given by officials to trainees and interns to motivate conducting of normal day to day activities.
Log 7: UNIDO report
While under my internship period, I took part in writing of many reports that helped me gain more knowledge about United Nations agencies and their responsibilities towards how they support its citizens and their needs. During my second month at my internship at the Vienna office, I took part in writing of many profiles among them UNIDO. I wrote a profile report about United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The profile indicates the role of UNIDO which involves promotion of industrial development practices in reducing poverty. It is also inclusive of globalization and environmental sustainability. UNIDO also aims at taking part in successful implementations that do with sustainable development goals and in supporting the entire population. UNIDO aims at setting strategic priorities that help in creating economic competitiveness. I took part in handling the project activities towards supporting the team in setting aside expectations and rules that govern specific activities. During the process, I faced several challenges such as collecting of information from viable sources, keeping up with current information from the archives and sharing current information. I also worked with other teams and colleagues from the intern team to address the concept of industrialization and poverty reduction. I gave the reports on the UNIDO reports towards the officials to check if the information is viable. However, I would say the whole process was smooth, I interacted with other officials shared knowledge across various roles and activities.
Log 8: UNODC Profile Report
During my internship time at the Saudi Arabia embassy, I had an opportunity to also work with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNIDOC) while working at the Vienna office. I worked with a group of officials towards addressing the main role of the organization. UNIDOC is indeed a global leader towards the fight against illicit drugs and crime. It is also responsible for implementing types of programs that end terrorism and influences peace. The organization was first established in 97 with an approximate of 500 members worldwide. I have written a profile report about United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This has increased my spectrum of knowledge about organizations and its relationships with other organizations. I met with officials of UNIDOC during my second moth of my internship who influenced me to work better and join them as a youth. This would influence ending of misuse of drugs among youths which is growing immensely. Hence, I came to learn the advantages of the taking part in the internship process to participate in learning and spreading information and learning concepts of UNIDOC.
