Vera Institute of Justice Reform 2019
State government's operations and policy should be based on improving the living standards of citizens through efficiency and establishing reliable correctional facilities. Providing well maintained correctional operations would boost the justice system. Criminal justice reforms are instrumental in achieving the positive objectives of the state in serving its citizens. The Little Hoover commission's mission is to ensure the government adheres to law enforcement and recommends constitutional changes which would formulate policies favoring the development and growth of states. Understanding the way of operation for citizens and meeting their needs would increase their chances of performing highly in ensuring their community welfare.
The justice system ought to act based on laws impounded to ensure every citizen receives state services as deserved hence improving state operations. The Governor and Legislature participate in implementing favorable policies by establishing laws that would serve the society. The Little Hoover Commission established appropriate recommendations on changes that embrace economic growth through constitutional changes. Some challenges that must be resolved include the department of corrections and rehabilitation, which is becoming overcrowded. Less action has been observed in ensuring public safety where the Governor and Legislature should intervene with other leaders to improve the correctional system without political interference.
The commission has recommended embracing proper correctional facilities to ensure public safety because crowding would spread diseases and cause an unhealthy environment. The commission's mission is to create a correctional system by expanding community-based punishments and consideration of offenders with fewer imprisonment periods. The government should establish funds to improve the justice system's standards and reduce congestion in correctional centers. The state should give the community accountability in correcting certain offenses and determining appropriate punishments. Understanding the well-being of individuals provides for accurate government intervention since the gaps are easily identified from regional studies hence creating laws that serve citizens appropriately.
The commission has studied the law enforcement training impact on police officers and communities in ensuring the law is adhered to. Police officers portray a positive image in their service. The Little Hoover Commission examines the role of law enforcement training by studying the action of police officers to serve justice and arrest offenders to keep the peace. The commission standards are based on citizens' stability and peace, which leads to their development and growth. A settled state improves the state's operation as economic functions are undertaken appropriately to ensure individuals' physical and social well-being. The commission's recommendations are based on academic research on proper law enforcement training techniques to improve justice service systems. The commission undertakes surveys from police officers to provide challenges and strengths of law enforcement training and evaluate its impact on community development. The survey is the source of data for which the establishment of relevant academia is identified to improve law enforcement by police officers.
University intervention in accountability of data for clearing house of offenders would help the government establish the exact number of offenders and dates of their release. Federal relief should be distributed appropriately within the state to help the most affected communities and reduce public funds' fraud by improving public safety in correctional centers. The commission's brief is to establish policies to ensure the funds are used to rescue the deteriorating state of offenders in correctional facilities. The activities funded by the relief funds should be structured as equivalent to the communities’ actual needs. Policymakers should formulate expenditure plans which would outline challenges and areas of weaknesses to find solutions and improve the livelihoods of the offender in justice delivery systems. The assessment of the rebuilding funds would include support of accountability systems and minority individuals through providing rehabilitation services which would lead to the mental and physical development of offenders. The commission's collaboration with community financial institutions identifies the affected groups and formulates procedures for accessing the rebuilding funds which would improve their welfare.
