Calista Roy has a philosophic assumption to her adaptation model. This assumption states that the person should have a relationship with the world and with the God figure. Human significance is based on the universe. God is seen as the divine creator while human have the ability of awareness, enlightenment and faith. People are in charge of continuing and changing the universe. Roy bases all the nursing process on the assumptions and concepts. There are two different levels of assessments. The 1stlevel is known as data collection about the person or person in adaptive mode. The 2ndlevel is identifying the stimuli that can be known as internal and/ or external that reflect adaptive behaviors. Using this 1stand 2ndassessments the nurse will be able to make nursing judgement and create the diagnosis. The nurse will then plan with the person or group by setting goals and stablishing outcomes of care. Later, interventions are applied when the nurse finds out how to better help the person by either changing the stimuli or coping with it. The goal is to create adaptation. The final step is evaluating the results.

In the case study, Mr. Reynolds is presented as a 32 y/o pt that has been hospitalized for a motor vehicle accident that resulted in right leg amputation. This data serves shows us all steps of nursing. This pt also has a hx of depression and schizophrenia. Further assessment also shows that the pt doesn’t have family support and recently got separated from his wife. This assessment shows us how the pt is not only dealing with a physical diagnosis but also a psychological one. The main priority is to find him a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery. However, the patient will most likely have a psychological intervention for depression in his plan of care. The patient will most likely be encouraged to express feelings and come up with coping measures that have helped in the past. This will allow the nurse to assess the pt’s psychological status and analyze the situation in which the pt is in and come up with solutions. This patient will also need stump care in the meantime. This includes inspection, cleaning, drying, and rewrapping the stump with bandage. This is done to observe for complication and to make sure there is proper healing of the area.
