The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This program was started by Judith A. Ramaley, the former director of the National Science Foundation’s education.

In 2015, the United States educational system received some sobering news. The Program of International Student Assessment (PISA) ranked 15-year-old U.S. high-school students 40th in mathematics and 25th in science. These results were based on data from 71 participating nations.

STEM Occupations Expected to Grow
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is vital to our economic future. As this graph shows, STEM occupations are projected to grow much faster than others. In fact, 15 of the 20 fastest growing jobs require a strong background in mathematics and science.

Teachers cannot carry the whole burden, parents and the comunity must encourage STEM activities and increase awareness
In order to remain competitive in the 21st century we need to prepare our students for the future.
