Final Report (35%) ! Prepare a report that ultimately provides our client with

answers to the research questions, and recommendations, based on evidence

! This report is a culmination of all activities up to this point. Students are permitted to use parts of their own work submitted in previous activities and assignments in this class.

Final Report Rubric Weight Executive Summary (1 page maximum): Clear, concise explanation of study, with key results and recommendations 10% Introduction (~1 page) ● Starts broad then narrows, explain importance of topic for who, ID knowledge gap ● Include research purpose and questions (as provided by instructor)

5%

Literature Review (~2 to 4 pages) ● Good quantity and quality from a mix of academic/media/government/industry (Individuals need at least 8, Pairs at least 12) ● Explain and define key concepts and stakeholders ● Organized by topics that relate to purpose, informing the study, starting broad then narrowing

15%

Methods: MUST USE TEXTBOOK TO REFERENCE (~2 to 4 pages) ● For qualitative interviews

o Identify inclusion criteria of sample o Identify, explain, and critique of sampling strategies used o Identify, explain, and critique of interview type conducted o Brief discussion on interview guide creation and content o Describe how interviews were conducted in line with best practices, including ethical considerations

10%

● For survey o Identify, explain, and critique survey type used o Identify, explain, and critique target population, sampling frame and strategies o Identification and critique of sampling ratio and margin of error

10%

Results (~4 to 6 pages) ● Qualitative Results

o Briefly introduce participants and characteristics (Individuals use 3 transcripts, Pairs 5 transcripts) o Present themes found, with some use of direct quotes (Individuals ~ themes, Pairs ~5 themes)

10%

● Quantitative Results o Clearly and professionally presented o Introduce sample first, then narrow down using Independent Variables to compare on Dependent Variables o Appropriate use of Chi-Square and T-Tests o Use of results from previous assignment is fine, but additional results and analysis are expected

10%

Implications (~2 to 4 pages) ● Offer recommendations for the client (Individuals need at least 3, Pairs at least 5) ● Each recommendation should relate to the research purpose and one or more of the research questions ● Each recommendation should be informed by the results and literature review and use Claim, Evidence, Impact model to structure

15%

Conclusion (~1 page) ● Summary of key points and contributions ● Identification of limitations of study ● Present ideas for future projects

5%

● APA and professional formatting throughout 5% ● Spelling and grammar 5% Failure to submit ANY of the appendices results in -5% penalty TOTAL 100%

Executive Summary (10%) ! Should be possible to read this alone and understand

! Problem (or knowledge gap) and Purpose of Project ! Data collection basics ! Most interesting results ! Implications/recommendations

! Should! ! Be 1 page max! ! Be easy to read and consume

! No jargon or academicy language! ! Bullet points etc.

! Include a visual (table, chart, model etc.)

! Lots of resources, e.g. https://www.projectmanager.com/blog/write-an-executive- summary

! TOM’S TOP TIPS! Write this last! (But NOT last minute!) Ask a (non-741) person to read this, and ask them if they understand, any gaps?

Intro (5%, ~1 page) ! Start with a ‘hook sentence’

! Introduce client, identify their role and responsibility

! Introduce key groups/stakeholders

! Identify knowledge gap

! Research Purpose

! Research Questions

! Blueprint/Outline statement

! Must include references to back up claims etc.

Lit Review (15%, ~2-4 pages) ! Good quantity and quality resources from a mix of academic/

media/ government/ industry… ! Individuals need at least 8, Pairs at least 12)

! Explain and define key concepts and stakeholders

! Organized by topics that relate to purpose, informing the study, starting broad then narrowing

! TOM’S TOP TIPS! As you prepare your results and think about recommendations, are there gaps in your Lit Review that could help you justify your ideas? The Lit Review helps set up your study, but can also be used to fill knowledge gaps that the results leave to help strengthen your recommendations.

Methods (20%, ~2-4 pages) ! Identify (i.e. name), explain (i.e. what does it mean?), and critique (i.e. what is good and

bad?) the methods we used to collect data. ! For qualitative interviews

! Identify inclusion criteria of sample ! Identify, explain, and critique of sampling strategies used ! Identify, explain, and critique of interview type conducted ! Brief discussion on interview guide creation and content ! Describe how interviews were conducted in line with best practices, including ethical

considerations

! For survey ! Identify, explain, and critique survey type used ! Identify, explain, and critique target population, sampling frame and strategies ! Identification and critique of sampling ratio and margin of error

! MUST USE TEXTBOOK TO REFERENCE

! TOM’S TOP TIPS! USE THE TEXTBOOK!!! Write chronologically where appropriate (start at the beginning!). Give the reader transparent info on what they should be aware- strengths and limitations that may affect results, and recommendations…

Results (20%, ~4-6 pages) ! Qualitative Results

! Briefly introduce participants and characteristics ! Individuals use 3 transcripts, Pairs 5 transcripts

! Present themes found, with some use of direct quotes ! Individuals ~3 themes, Pairs ~5 themes

! Quantitative Results ! Clearly and professionally presented ! Introduce sample first, then narrow down using Independent Variables to compare on Dependent Variables ! Appropriate use of Chi-Square and T-Tests ! Use of results from previous assignment is fine, but additional results and analysis are expected

! TOM’S TOP TIPS! Use the results to give you evidence to answer research questions, and to support your recommendations. If you say the client should ‘market on Instagram’, you MUST have this in your results! ! Show ‘overall results’ for some RQs, but then identify and justify a ‘Target Market’! ! Use the skills from ‘excel report’ to strategically create useful tables/charts, use t-tests/chi-squares to

demonstrate the significance to add credibility and justification for your recommendations.
