What key client information should you have before you walk in to meet/assess your client?

The key information we need to know before entering a patient’s room include knowing the patient condition and the reason for admission. Know if they are on isolation precaution. Know their doctor. Know the medication they are on. Have an understanding of the patient health (Marquis & Huston 2017).

What are some of the responsibilities of a RN compared to an LPN or Tech/CNA and what can the RN delegate to the LPN and/or Tech/CNA? (See the Nurse Practice Act and Professional Skills Set)

The responsibilities of a register nurse compared to a licensed practical nurse or a tech/certified nursing assistant is that a register nurse does the assessment, initial education, IV push medications, teaching, provide blood products, provide full care to unstable patients, delegate duties, health education, counseling, supervise licensed practical nurse or a tech/certified nursing assistant. Licensed practical nurse can administer oral medications, vital signs, start IV access, change dressings, and provide basic patient care. The register nurse can delegate the licensed practical nurse and or tech/certified nursing assistant to do vital signs. Assess, obtain and record input & output. Assess start IV access. Help a patient with bed. Assist a patient with bathing. Perform routine hygiene. Turn patients. Assist stable patients with activities of daily living (Marquis & Huston 2017).
