The quest for any job seeker including an aspiring network engineer requires an elaborate and comprehensive job search process to get a chance to work in the most reputable company in the department technological system or another department which is associated with network engineering. Job search refers to the process that is aimed at matching the many job seekers to the most suitable job opportunities (Palmer, 2015). In an economic perspective, the job search approach is associated with people’s decisions to agree or reject offers of employment provided the cost of searching and the wage reserved. However, the sociological perspective on job search always considers more features or factors of the job process which may include the motivating factors which may lead to people to search and the various activities that result to job offers being made by the individual who needs the job opportunity. Network engineers or other job seeker needs to understand the fact that the methods of job search are traditionally divided into two approaches, such as the informal and formal methods of job search. The formal methods of job search entail involving the services of a registered employment agencies or responding to the published newspaper, journals, and the internet advertisements. However, the use of an individual’s personal address and contacts is one of the highly studied or examined the form of the informal job search method. Similarly, the job search conducts have also been categorized into active and passive behavior considering the level of activity the job seeker is engaging in to seek the job opportunity. It is notable that active behavior of the job seeker is associated with greater activity as compared to the passive job seeker. The intensity of the job search is also a significant aspect while studying the process of job search. The job search intensity is always measured while considering the time one spends while looking for the job, the number of made application for the same opportunity and the various types of the job search methods used by a given applicant or candidate (Manciagli, 2013).
The Role of Internet in Job Search Process
Over the recent years, the internet use has dominated in the process of job search. This can be associated with the increased use of technology and the world which has since gone a global village. Everyone will enquire for the relevant information including the information about the available employment opportunities in the industry. Typically, the internet utilization can enable the exchange of information between the employers and the individuals seeking employment. Furthermore, the use of the internet can significantly minimize the cost of getting information concerning particular job opportunities and applying for the various jobs including the Network Engineering job opportunities. The policies of improving the use of digital media in the process of job search among other related activities are without a doubt increasing and will soon be integrated and explored by both the job seekers and the employers or other agencies concerned with job search procedure. It is always important to use the internet and the information communication technology with the collaboration of other search strategies to be productive in the process of seeking the employment opportunities (Jacoway & Alba 2012).
The increasing use of the Internet and the Information Communication Technology has led to the issue of the digital divide in the society. The digital divide can be referred to as the gap which exists between the individuals who have the capacity to access the Internet and the ICT while looking for the employment opportunities and pursue them, and people have little or no access to the internet or information communication technology. The digital divide challenge has resulted in the feeling of exclusion that is, on the grounds of social, economic status and lack of education opportunities and those who feel that it is a choice as they may have access to these technologies and the internet but however chose not to use them. The Significance of Social Networks in the Process of Job Search
Studies have confirmed that the use of social networks is vital in the job search process as well as the career development. Therefore, to effective achieve the career goals of a network engineer there is need to integrate social networks. In additional, literature on the job search strategies incorporated by the job seekers shows that inquiries from friends, relatives, and associates for the relevant information concerning the various employment opportunities are a usual and shared practice in the current society. However, it is also important to note the fact that the quality and value of a person’s network is more vital compared to the number of contacts together with the kinds of the social network available as well as the magnitude and intensity of using the open connections (Jacoway & Alba 2012).
However, while seeking for employment as a Network Engineer, I will consider the issues that are raised on the social network. For instance, close social networks emphasized on the disadvantaged communities are not always appealing or positive about promoting job search conduct and enhancing the access to employment. Nevertheless, there are some situations when strong ties especially when the jobs are scarce can be supportive. Therefore, it is always important to consider various factors while using the social networks in job searching. Some of the factors to put into consideration include the groups and the location or areas.
Network Engineer Job Search
A network engineer is sometimes known as the system architect, typically designs and implements computer systems in the organization. The network engineer regularly emphasizes on the high-tech design and planning of the company’s networks. Similarly, network engineers chose the appropriate data communications elements and configured them so as to meet both the user and the corporate requirements. The development or construction of a consistent, reliable, and high-performing network integrating LAN, WAN, PAN, Internet and intranet components includes the network modeling and investigation. Proposal:
The proposal of this paper is entirely dependent on the processes that I will utilize in searching for a job opportunity at a reputable company as a network engineer. It is a naked fact that finding a job is not a simple task as it needs much hard work as well as the technical skills to get into the work. The paper will provide the cycle of the action research through a step by step process in getting the employment opportunity. Similarly, the article will entail the iterations which involve the process of finding the job opportunity.
It is evident that the journal is divided into four iterations. The first iteration will include carrying out a comprehensive research on network engineering. I will engage the Internet and other information communication technology tools to get the relevant information concerning the position. Specifically, I will search for information from the various websites, journals and online books which will provide the essential aspects or ideas on the post of the network engineering in the current market or industry. These data and information will be valuable as they will foster my desire for the opportunity and also motivate me to look further towards getting the employment opportunity. Besides, I will also be seeking the information of the some of the most reputable technological companies which have been successful as far as the network management and engineering are concerned. The internet sources of information will also be valuable in giving me the various information concerning the multiple roles and responsibilities of the network engineer. This, therefore, completes my initial step of iteration and it leads me much further towards my goal.
The second iteration will entail choosing an appropriate institute and begin my training and lessons. This iteration as a section of my action research, I will make a choice of one of the best institution to get basic and essential training on network engineering. I will be seeking to improve my skills and knowledge in various topics including Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Data Centre Networking as well as Content Distribution. Because three mentioned issues are the most important core for a network engineer, I believe that the opportunity to get trained on them will be valuable during the interviewing process and also after the successful selection after the interview. Moreover, in the process of looking for an institution, I would also ask whether the available professor would be capable of educating me on the said topics with the inclusion of both theories and practical lessons. These are some of the factors I will use in selecting the bet institution. This iteration stage will be significant in helping me have more knowledge and insight on the relevant topics and skills required for network engineering jobs and also play a role in interview preparation.
The third iteration will major on meeting some of the famous and fruitful network engineers from reputable companies. I will carry out the face-to-face interview with these experts with the aim of increasing my knowledge and understanding of the working culture and some of the roles and responsibilities of a network engineer. Similarly, engaging with these professionals will also help me acquire some skills and strategies they have used for them to be successful and therefore provide me with sufficient confidence to face both the interview and the corporate world.
Lastly, I will apply for the advertised position of network engineer at the company and finally, prepare for the interview. The first critical step in preparing for an interview is the preparation of the resume. I will seek for the various online samples and templates from some of the recognized and fruitful network engineers and edit mine while referring to them. Besides, I will begin preparing myself for the actual interview by reviewing some of the required technical skills for the position. I will use the various information learned from the interviewed professional. Next, I will rehearse for the interview by examining some of the online interview questions to assist me to get acquainted with some of the common interview questions and how I will handle them during the interviewing process. It would be critical to peruse and practice some presentation skills since some companies may involve the strategy as part of the interview.
