Introduction

This literature review focuses on past scholarly work that has been conducted in the past to determine the factors that affect immigrant students. Three scholarly articles are used in the review, after which a summary of the findings is provided. Living standards

Rapid and ongoing patterns of immigration have been a problem for a wide range of nations throughout history. As a result of immigration, educating immigrant children has become a complex and challenging task. Students must overcome obstacles that interrupt schooling, language and cultural barriers, minority religious beliefs, native education, socioeconomic resources, and the degree to which immigrants are accepted or rejected in the host country. The thousands of families who immigrate to the United States each year face difficulties in the immigration process even though immigration is a time-honored tradition in many countries. Personal struggles brought on by immigration, especially for children, can feel overwhelming (Landale et al., 2011). When a young person is caught between two cultures, it can lead to identity crises because they are still growing their sense of self. They face difficulties that are often hidden not only from the outside world but also from their loved ones: Because they want their children to succeed in the new country, immigrant parents often put more emphasis on their children's academic performance than on meeting their emotional and social needs. In the same vein, immigrant parents often favor having their children conform to traditional values rather than adopting more open Western norms, a prejudice that can increase social isolation for their offspring. Adolescents are especially vulnerable to the negative consequences of family conflict, particularly over dating, appropriate attire, and curfews. The issue of bullying has become a significant problem among immigrant students due to their living standards and past experiences. This affects the ability of these immigrant students to concentrate in school and attain the expected outcomes in academic performance. Being a part of a large family can increase the risk of experiencing bullying at school. According to the literature, adolescent adjustment issues may decrease when grandparents are actively involved in their grandchildren's education. Co-residing with grandparents has been shown to be a protective factor against adolescent involvement in bullying at school, and it can also significantly improve academic performance. In addition to family composition and socioeconomic status, other demographic factors at home may also play a role in the prevalence of bullying in schools (Landale et al., 2011). Low school preparedness

Immigrant students face the challenge of low school preparedness, which in turn affects the student's academic performance and the student's self-discipline level in school. Open dialogue about bullying can help protect a child from becoming a target. The child will be better able to recognize and avoid the problem once they enter a school setting if parents take the time to explain it to them and give it a name. Tell them that not all kids have stable, loving relationships growing up and that some may become bullies at school. A child can come from these discussions feeling enlightened rather than alarmed. The parent or caregiver assures the child that bullying is something to keep an eye out for and report to an adult so that both the bully and the victim can receive assistance (Sawyer et al., 2022). Poor parent-child relationship

Immigrant students face challenges from the straining parent-child relationship, which is contributed by the constraints in their families' social and economic status. Recent studies have shown that children whose parents engage in derisive behavior are less able to control their anger as middle scholars and that this emotional difficulty may predispose youth to engage in poor academic performance and bullying behavior. Based on the findings of this long-term study, it appears that children subjected to derisive parenting styles have more trouble learning to control their anger. Based on their data modeling, the researchers discovered a correlation between parental reports and reports of emotional control the following year and between emotional control and bullying behavior. In this way, they could determine if emotionally unregulated youth are more likely to engage in bullying and if emotionally unregulated youth are more likely to have derisive parents. Researchers cannot conduct rigorous experiments on human subjects using these concepts, but they can understand the order in which certain risk factors for youth violence typically occur (Salami et al., 2022). It is hard to discern whether these are your opinions or they come from actual research.

Summary

Immigrant students face multiple challenges affecting their academic performance and life goals. Among the major factors, these students experience include a straining parent-child relationship necessary to motivate them to develop appropriate discipline and hard work in school. Also, some of the children enrolled in school have low preparedness, thus experiencing difficulty adapting to the school environment. Lastly, there is the issue of living standards, the majority of which is characterized by poverty and family dysfunctions which limit the potential of the child to perform well academically.
