Description:

The goal of the literature review is to answer the question: What do scholars/thinkers in the field have to say about your topic/question. Thus, your literature review should contain clear summaries of each source as well as additional paragraph with documentation discussing what the source has to contribute to your question. 

Instructions (Preparation):

1. Review this definition of a literature review and watch these videos. 
2. Convert your working bibliography into a literature review of a minimum of 1000 words. 
   1. Compose a 4-5 sentence summary/analysis for each source. Don’t forget to use parenthetical citations.
   2. For each source, determine how it contributes to your question. 
      • The source provides theoretical information about your topic or question. The source defines key terms and concepts.
      • The source provides historical background regarding your topic or question.
      • The source offers an alternative perspective or provides a glimpse at the most common perspective(s) on your topic or question.
      • The source answers your research question or contradicts your answer to your research question. 

1. 1. Note any statement of seminal thinkers, books, articles, definitions, theories, and additional ideas.
2. You may add additional sources if you discover others that are relevant to your research question.

Instructions (Composition)

1. Introduction
   1. Introduce your topic and/or research question.
   2. Include a thesis statement that answers the question: What do scholars/thinkers in the field have to say about your topic/question.
2. Write an essay that develops your thesis statement with evidence from the 10 sources you’ve found. 
   1. Remember to summarize the source the first time you introduce it in the essay.
   2. Remember to add appropriate parenthetical citations. Cite your sources
3. Conclusion
   1. Restate what you’ve learned.
   2. Discuss how you will complete your research paper:
      1. How does this help you answer your research question? 
      2. What’s left to do to complete your research paper?
4. Remember to include a Works Cited/References end page(s)
