Running head: Literary Exploration
1
Literary texts are customarily concerned with human experience. The imaginative identification of the interaction between humans and nature is presented in the literal text particularly in poems that illustrate the inner feelings and thoughts of human beings through the economy use of words for expression. To shade light in this statement, I will have an exploratory analysis of the poem "Carry on" and "The Runaways" (Robert W; Louise Erdrich). The idea of perseverance particularly among the youth is a matter of concern than the authors address in their poetry. Furthermore, illustration from two poems gives a better understanding of the concern of the relationship between human being and their environment in determining their survival.
In the "Carry on "(Robert W), the prevailing idea is self- determination and perseverance in times of difficulty with alluring future due to stamina of the persona in the poem. This is because the poem addresses self-action towards achieving life goals despite challenging life experiences. Similarly in the poem “The Runaways” (Louise Erdrich) advocates for the same concern using an archetype of the school life among the learners. The poet expresses contrasting ideas of disappears and optimistic to illustrate relevancy in perseverance in human nature.
At the beginning of the poems, there is a vivid description of the difficulties that the characters go through in the providence of nature. Zhang X expresses that, nature has a role in shaping characters' life in the literature of naturalism (196). In the poem “Carry on” the persona who is self reflects on how it is very comfortable to keep on fighting when one is willing, “It's easy to fight when everything's right" (Robert, 1). This preposition indicates the optimistic view of the fighter in dealing with environmental changelings such as racism, prejudice, and wars. On the contrary, the case is dissimilar when one is under disillusion since the persona requires determination to change the unfortunate situation at hand.
It's a different song when everything's wrong
When you’re feeling infernally mortal;
When it’s ten against one, and hope there is none,
Buck up, little soldier, and chortle:
(Robert 5-8). These lines indicate the despair in human nature when in a challenging environment. The person who is self acknowledges who this is different in an epoch of one’s life which requires determination to win.
Correspondingly in the poem "The runaways" (Louise Erdrich) identifies the struggles that the native American Children go through in a boarding school. The natives keep the image of home within them even if they are on the run as the persona put it using a hopeful tone. However, unlike the “Carry on” poem, the “The runaways” advocate for the group survival. “Home’s the place we head for in our sleep” “Boxcars stumbling north in dreams” (1-2). The lines show a collective determination to overcome and preserve harsh conditions at the institution. Moreover, “runaways” is an image and metaphor of the learners in uniform determined to succeed and regain they're lost identify from the schools in which they come out with different and confusing ideas about group identification.
To conclude, the authors serve to preserve the theme of perseverance in the human environment. The significance of determination in harsh conditions is fundamental to the survival of human nature. The poems pass general information to human nature which enables them to overcome the objection. For instance, the learners in "shameful" clothes were optimistic and determined to surpass harsh conditions. Self-determination and perseverance equally matter just like group persistence for the survival and achievement of life goals.
