Literacy Expert Research: Resume  This website provides information on the Research Process .    The following resume format has been modified to meet the requirements of this assignment. You  will conduct research online to find sufficient and relevant information for each section of the  resume and that answers the questions provided in some sections. Write the entire resume in  first-person, as if you are the literacy expert.    Sections to Include  Ultimately the resume should describe activities, accomplishments , and successes of your literacy  expert as it pertains to learning to read and write .

if some of the information in the Heading section is not available do not put any information.  Some of the experts have retired and so do not have contact information. 

 

Education . List all academic degrees , with most recently earned first .   Institution, City, State, Graduation Month and Year   Write out full name of degree and major (PhD. in Curriculum and Instruction, not just PhD.)    also list Minors and Concentrations     Each degree is listed separately.     Example :  University of San Jose, San Jose, CA, 5/2009  Bachelor of Arts/Education    Professional Profile  An overview of the contributions the literacy expert has made to understanding how one  learns to read and/or write . Must include a summary of the answers to these questions .  

❖ How do children develop as readers and/or writers?    ❖ What factors influence literacy development?  ❖ What recommendations does the expert make regarding literacy instruction?  ❖ Describe how the expert uses information from brain research. 

The key to this section is to summarize the most important information about your literacy  expert. If the reader only read this part of the resume, what would you want the reader to know  about your literacy expert? 

 

Highlights of Relevant Professional Experience   List positions your literacy expert has held that show off the skills and expertise related to  reading and/or writing. You can group experiences into relevant categories to enhance the resume  (e.g. Research, Teaching, Administration). For each position , include:    

❖ Title, organization name, city and state, dates position was held.    

❖ Bullet points that summarize the activities/duties, accomplishments, and successes .  Use action verbs. Do not use complete sentences. 

  Publications   Give bibliographic citations for articles, research reports, or any other publications that  your Literacy Expert has authored or co-authored. If you are not certain how to create a  bibliographic citation, use this website or this website for assistance. The APA citation format is  used in education. Also include a brief summary of the focus of each publication . Limit this  section to a maximum of 5 items.     This is an example of the format for items included in this section :  Reading Recovery . Clay, M., (1993). Reading Recovery . New York, NY: Harper Collins.  This book guides teachers on how to implement the Reading Recovery program.   

Recent/Current Research  Describe research projects that have been conducted or are in progress. Include the type of  research and a brief description of the purpose . Include a maximum of 5 research projects.    This section must also include a summary of the answers to these questions .

Guidelines: What to Include in the Resume of Your Literacy Expert   

S ufficient  Give sufficient/enough information about the literacy expert and his/her qualifications. Be  thorough. 

T ypical  What is written should be “typical” of the requirements; the more “exceptional” the quantity and  quality of the “typical” experience, the better. Use keywords to indicate the experience that is  typical of the job. 

A ccurate  Be accurate in the facts you give about your literacy expert; avoid ambiguities. Also make sure  that the resume is mechanically accurate, that it does not contain any spelling or grammatical  errors.    R elevant  Include all information that is pertinent to the background of the literacy expert.
