Assignment 1 ½ pages
After watching the videos and completing the reading for this module, consider the following questions as you discuss the readings and videos from this module:
· Which reading and video impacted you the most and why?
· What did you learn or confirm about yourself with all these readings and videos?
· How would you talk to fellow professionals who have not examined their white privilege and bias given what you know at this point in your life and this course?
· How do we help students understand these concepts?
Assignment 2
You are going to begin creating a proposal for a professional development workshop on how to create a culturally supportive literacy environment in the classroom. The final project will be a recorded presentation using google slides, prezi, power point, etc. (hence the technology training each module that you are encouraged to use in your final presentation). The purpose of the final project is to create a professional development that you would present (hypothetically or in reality) to your current/future co-workers. See the module 5 final project assignment area for further instructions.
For this module you are creating a proposal for the professional development that you will create for module 5. This proposal will be in a slide show format where you will draw upon your teaching philosophy from module 3, and the theories and instructional techniques we have learned about so far. You are to use one of the presentation methods we have learned (Power Point, Prezi, Screen-cast-o-matic)
Topic: Your understanding about what it means to be a child of color in today's schools
All Projects:
All projects should start with your ideas about teaching and the theories that influence you and be situated in learning and learners in a cultural context. You will look back to your module 3 assignment and draw from this.
· You will present and define these theories and your teaching approach. (this will be slides 1-3 of your presentation)
· Your presentation will also discuss how these theories have shaped the presentation you are doing. (slides 4-5)
· Then your presentation will address the topic you've selected. (one slide since this is the piece that you'll need to focus on more for module 5 once you get feedback from your classmates)
